Calais

Calais is an Australian indie rock band comprised of Tim Lollback (Vocals, Synth), Joseph Fleming (Lead Guitar), Guy Stacey (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Liam Roberts (Bass Guitar), and Will Mogg (Drums). Emerging from the Brisbane music scene with a blend of progressive rock and lyrics akin to Kings of Leon and Coldplay that were positively received by local fans and critics, Calais solidified their sound in late 2013 with the single release of ‘Animalistic’. Blending ethereal guitar and vocal melodies over a foundation of syncopated dance drum and bass arrangements, the band became part of the thriving Brisbane indie scene. This new direction saw Calais perform with the likes of Ball Park Music, Emma Louise, Jeremy Neale and San Cisco. Calais’ sound began to incorporate mid-tempo soundscapes with textural guitar performances and dynamic vocals drawing comparisons to international acts such as The 1975 and The Neighbourhood. Their weightless stylization has since become a trademark of the band as they continue to create emotionally raw music propelled by layered instrumentation. Their latest EP, ‘Silhouettes’ (2015), was picked up by blogs and online radio stations in North America and its release saw them perform to a sellout crowd at Black Bear Lodge, one of Brisbane’s most popular live music venues. Calais continues to write and release new music, which blends elements of indie and alternative rock with a POP sensibility to form a unique presence in the Australian music scene.
