About Young American Primitive

Young American Primitive, aka YAP, is Greg Scanavino a producer/remixer who emerged from the Bay Area house scene in the early 90's. Young American Primitive is mostly known for his self-titled debut album released by Zoë Magik Records in 1993. He also released several 12"s and made several compilation appearances. One of them is "These Waves". That song, originally present in the 1993 album, was included on Sasha and John Digweed's Northern Exposure I mix album in 1996. In 1997, the album “African Cosmopolitan” was released but didn’t seem to have reached the success of Young American Primitive’s first album.

According to the All Music Guide review (http://www.allmusic.com ), The music of the self-titled debut album is at once bristling but never out of control. The effect of the energy that is underlying each piece is to provide an impetus of variety and power rhythms that make the music danceable. Young American Primitive is poised to be the American spokesman for the current wave of Euro-techno-funk

Scanavino returned briefly to the electronic music scene in 2001 performing remix duties on two popular progressive house tracks, as well as collaborating with fellow American producer and DJ Jimmy Van M and vocalist Terra Deva on the fantastic "Forget Time". In 2005, he contributed the track "Voyage To The Great Attractor" to DJ Jonathan Lisle for the second volume in Bedrock's Original Series, but has remained relatively inactive for the most part (http://www.discogs.com).
