FRENCH BIO (English version just below!): Yoann FreeJay (Fréget) chante depuis son enfance et il découvre le Gospel à 15 ans, en assistant à un concert de Gospelize It ! Mass Choir, chorale dirigée alors par Emmanuel Djob - grand pionnier du gospel en France. Quelques mois plus tard, Yoann rejoint cette ensemble de plus de 70 choristes et en devient le plus jeune soliste. Il est très vite reconnu comme un des talents les plus prometteurs de la scène montpelliéraine. C'est dans ce contexte que Yoann découvre la culture afro-américaine, et se retrouve totalement dans la quête de liberté et d'expression qui y est intimement reliée. LA CARRIERE DEMARRE: Dès ses 18 ans, Yoann se produit avec ses propres musiciens et est de plus en plus demandé en tant que soliste dans divers groupes professionnels de soul, de gospel et de rythm an’ blues, tels que BRBB (orchestre de 8 musiciens rendant hommage à Otis Redding), The Soul Travellers Gospel Quartet, Gospel Shakers et Gospel Jam. On retrouve ensuite Yoann en tant que soliste dans la plus grande chorale de gospel européenne, Gospel pour 100 Voix, avec laquelle il chante dans les plus grandes salles (Paris Bercy, les Zéniths, le Cirque Royal de Bruxelles, etc). En 2007, il fonde et dirige sa propre chorale, Le Choeur Enchanté, et commence à animer de nombreux stages en Europe (Angleterre, Italie, Belgique, Allemagne, Suède, Finlande, Suisse, Autriche, Hollande, etc). LE POUVOIR DE LA MUSIQUE: En 2008, à l'âge de 21 ans, Yoann devient Musicothérapeute diplômé par l’Université de Montpellier, après avoir travaillé auprès d’enfants autistes ainsi que d'adolescents atteints de bégaiement. Yoann connaît lui-même le pouvoir de la musique : ayant commencé à très fortement bégayer à l’âge de 3 ans puis ayant vu ce trouble disparaître progressivement mais très nettement grâce à la pratique du chant, puis plus tard de la méditation. VOYAGES EN INDE ET EN AMERIQUE DU NORD: En 2010, au retour d'un voyage fascinant de 5 mois en Inde pour apprendre la musique classique Indienne, Yoann part en tournée au Canada et aux Etats-Unis. Il fait alors plus de 60 concerts en 3 mois, avec un concept unique de show acapella, accompagné de sa seule loop-station, et entièrement basé sur l'émotion, le groove, et l'interaction musicale avec le public. Il reçoit alors un accueil très chaleureux de la part du publique transatlantique, et tout particulièrement de la part de la communauté afro-américaine. LE SUCCES ARRIVE: En 2011, Yoann gagne la première place du concours de soul le plus important en France, le Sankofa Soul Contest, arrivant premier à chaque étape. Grâce à la récompense du concours, il retourne aux Etats-Unis, et a l'incroyable opportunité de se produire avec les musiciens de la célèbre chanteuse de nu-soul Erykah Badu, lors d'un concert organisé spécialement pour lui à Dallas. Yoann est également demandé en tant que choriste pour des artistes internationaux comme Stevie Wonder, Nicole Slack Jones, Liz Mc Comb, Helen Carter, et Marianne Aya Omac. THE VOICE AND MORE: Le 18 mai 2013, Yoann gagne le très célèbre télé-crochet THE VOICE, avec plus de 2 millions de votes en sa faveur. Durant l'émission, qui rassemble plus de 7 millions de téléspectateurs chaque semaine pendant 5 mois, Yoann se distingue de par sa sincérité et son intégrité musicale, revisitant en direct les plus grandes standards de la musique noire américaine. Le 6 janvier 2014, Yoann sort son tout 1er album avec Universal Music, Quelques Heures Avec Moi, mêlant la soul et la pop, sur des titres inédits et en français de compositeurs et auteurs de renom, tels que Jacques Veneruso (Céline Dion, Florent Pagny, Garou, Yannick Noah) ou encore François Welgryn (Céline Dion, Amel Bent, Johnny Hallyday). On y retrouve notamment le titre du générique de fin du film La Belle Et La Bête - plus grosse production française de l'année 2014 - réalisé par Christophe Gans (Le Pacte des Loups, Silent Hill, etc.) L’année qui suit, Yoann sillonne la France et se produit avec son groupe à guichets fermés sur de grandes scènes, comme le célèbre Théâtre du Gymnase et le Divan du Monde à Paris, ou encore le Summum à Grenoble. Il participe également à de nombreux festivals comme Montereau Confluences, Saint Quentin en Scène, le Festival d’Audincourt, et à des plateaux radios. Au cours de cette année, Yoann est également invité par Lara Fabian elle-même à enregistrer en duo une reprise de la mythique chanson "On Se Retrouvera" (Francis Lalanne) dans l'album "Les Enfants du Top 50", qui arrive en tête des téléchargements français - tout comme leur duo qui devient le titre le plus téléchargé de l'album. Actuellement, Yoann prépare son nouvel album, très attendu par tout son public, à qui il a déjà pu annoncer lors de ses dernières apparitions télévisuelles qu'il sera bien plus proche de ses influences soul et groove!... Le meilleur reste à venir! ====================== ENGLISH BIO : Yoann FreeJay (Fréget) has been a dedicated full time singer since his early childhood. His musical goals came into focus at the tender age of 15 when he discovered American gospel music. It wasn't long before he joined a professional French choir, Gospelize It Mass Choir, directed by the renowned French gospel pioneer Emmanuel Djob who originally came from the African country of Cameroon. It was Mr Job who introduced the young Yoann to the roots of African American culture and the inherent longing for freedom and expression that came with it. Within a year, Yoann became the youngest soloist in the choir and he was quickly recognized as one of the most promising talents in the French soul and gospel scene. EARLY PROMISE: At the age of 18, Yoann was asked to be the lead singer in various popular R&B, soul and gospel bands around France such as BRBB (an Otis Redding tribute band), The Soul Travelers Gospel Quartet, Gospel Shakers and Gospel Jam. He also started singing with his own band at that time. Yoann then appeared as the soloist in the famous European gospel choir, Gospel Pour 100 Voix (featuring more than 100 singers in the group!). While in this band, he performed on some of the most prestigious stages in Europe including Zéniths, Paris Bercy and Brussel’s Cirque Royal. THE HEALING POWER OF MUSIC In 2008 and at the age of 21, Yoann graduated as a Music Therapist from the University of Montpellier. While there, he worked extensively with children suffering from autism and teenagers with stuttered speech syndrome (SSS). In the last case Yoann was teaching from experience, as he himself has been affected by severe stuttering disorder since the age of 3 years old, which noticeabily started to disappear as he began singing gospel music, and later on, with the practice of meditation. TRAVELS TO INDIA AND NORTH AMERICA: In 2010, after a life-changing 5 month journey to India to learn the roots of Indian classical music, Yoann was invited for a 3 month tour of the US and Canada. This included 50 concerts in various cities with the unique concept of giving concerts a-cappella (solo vocal), accompanied only with his single loop station. The entire show was built around emotion, connection, groove and musical interaction with the audience. All of his performances were very well received, especially in the African American churches where he felt more at home than in his own country! SUCESS STARTS TO COME: In 2011, Yoann won first place in France’s largest Soul Music competition, The Sankofa Soul Contest, while covering two songs by his hero, Stevie Wonder. Yoann's contest prize was to travel back to the US and have the incredible opportunity to perform with the great Erykah Badu musicians backing him up. This concert was specially tailored for him in Dallas, Texas. Yoann has also had the honor of performing as a backing singer for such artists as Stevie Wonder, Liz McComb, Nicole Slack Jones, Helen Carter, and Marianne Aya Omac. THE VOICE AND MORE: In 2013, Yoann won the world famous French TV show, THE VOICE. With more than 7 million viewers each week during 5 months of taping, Yoann won over the hearts of millions of television viewers. On the 6th January 2014, his very first album with Universal Reccords, Quelques Heures Avec Moi, was released. This record includes a mix of french pop and soul. One of the songs on the album was specially chosen as a soundtrack for the biggest movie of the year in France, Beauty and The Beast, directed by Christophe Gans. On this same year, Yoann has also been asked by the international pop singer Lara Fabian to record a duet of the song « On Se Retrouvera » with her on the cover album « Les Enfants du Top 50 » (Play On) wich has reached number one in France - their duet being the more downloaded song of the album. Presently, Yoann is preparing his new album which is highly anticipated by all of his fans. He recently announced on TV that this album will be much closer from his soul and laid-back groove background. The best is yet to come!
