About Whitney McCombs
Hailing from the Midwest, Whitney McCombs is a singer-songwriter with a decade’s worth of writing and playing experience. Influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Florence & The Machine, and Sharon Van Etten, McCombs blends a unique mixture of the ‘90s alternative music she grew up on along with the vocal styling and storytelling of Florence Welch and Van Etten. McCombs has been on the road as both a solo acoustic act in the bar and coffee house scenes, as well as notable national venues with a band supporting her. With every honest word and breathy nuance, her performances will both enliven your day and sober your thoughts about life. “Home,” her first EP, was released in fall 2011, shortly before her graduation from a small college in Ohio. The album was featured on Noisetrade's homepage when Whitney was chosen as a "New & Notable" artist. After college, McCombs spent two years in Nashville to hone in on her sound, crafting many of her new songs to mirror the adventures and struggles of living in a new city. With a fresh portfolio and new musicians to collaborate with, she released her second EP (self-titled) in the fall of 2014. McCombs teamed up with Joe Casey and Chris Murphy, friends she once toured cross country with, to help co-produce and engineer the record. The five track EP is a collection of some of the songwriter's best material to date. Writing about broken relationships, abuse, The Death with Dignity Act, and self-actualization, McCombs delivers a raw and genuine studio performance that is every bit reflective of the melancholy and brutally honest characteristics her fans have come to know and love her for. Based again in rural Ohio, Whitney is enjoying motherhood. With every honest word and breathy nuance, her performances will both enliven your day and sober your thoughts about life
