Vow of Volition

Vow of Volition formed in 2015 by lead guitarist Peter Nye and rhythm guitarist Tyler Walton, later picking up Nick Van Dusan on drums, Walter Hartzell on bass, and Julien Johnsohn for vocals.

Vow of Volition is a prog-tech-death metal band formed in Portland, OR in 2015. With a drive and enthusiasm that would wait for no one else they adopted the "DIY" philosophy to film, edit, produce, write and record their material all at their home studio. After a year of local gigging, songwriting and band development, they started their "How to Write Like" YouTube series, and soon released their debut EP "Anthelion" in 2017 followed by a summer west coast tour that year. Drawing heavy influence from bands like Veil Of Maya, Rings of Saturn, Meshuggah, Chon, Animals As Leaders and others, founding members Peter Nye and Tyler Walton made their "How to Write Like" videos by deconstructing and analyzing the artist's style to write original material in their image. This constant exploration of different styles of music and incorporating them into their own repertoire allows them free range of musical expression. Drummer Nick Van Dusen and vocalist Julien Johnson joined the ranks in 2016 with Walter Hartzell picking up bass in 2017. VoV is currently recording a second album scheduled for release in early 2018, gigging locally in Portland, constantly creating online content and planning a summer tour.
