Voltumna

After several tours and shows across the 4 big continents from Usa to Europe, from South Africa to China, The Etruscan Priests are becoming one of the most impressive extreme bands made in Italy.

Born in 2009, Voltumna isn’t your classic extreme metal band. Their sound finds its roots in the old-school death/black metal tradition and the leading theme of their music makes them unique and original indeed. In fact, listening to their songs, will send you back in time to the Etruscan civilization and their myths. The release of their first EP “Chimera” in 2011 is the starting point of their music production. Four songs, recorded at the Fear No One studio shows clearly what’s the musical direction of the band which will start an intensive national live tour following the EP release. In the summer of 2012 Voltumna go back to the Fear No One studio and the recordings of the debut album “Damnatio Sacrorum” starts, this time with Paolo Pieri (Hour Of Penance, Aborym) looking after the album production. Ten songs of pure old-school death/black metal brutality is what the album is made of! Soon the album gets licensed by the English label Cold Birth Records that will bring the band on stage throughout Europe together with Inquisition, Taake and Carpathian Forest. Once again, in 2014, the band record a new album of 12 tracks with Paolo Pieri.
“Disciplina Etrusca” gives even more emphasis on the death-black attitude of the band unique sound which sees Volutmna playing over 100 gigs all over the world in some of the most popular music festivals like MetalGate Czech DeathFest, the British Incineration Festival, the Ukrainian Carpathian Alliance, the Metal Crowd Open air in Bielorussia, a tour in South Africa with Behemoth and a summer tour in U.S. “Disciplina Etrusca”, released in 2015 by Subsound Records (artwork by Marcello Vasco), is a concept album where the songs are all thematically-linked to the Etruscan era rituality and customs. The rise of the Etruscan war machine continued for the whole 2016 with a confirmed summer tour in China and they have been already added to the line-up of the 2017 German festival Ragnarok and the Bulgarian Autumn of Souls.
In autumn the band will start the recordings of their new concept album “Dodecapoli”, which will be centered on the twelve cities of the Etruscan confederation, also this time the artwork will be supervised by Marcello Vasco. Despite their young age (in their early twenties), the Voltumna are to be considered as a name already stated in the death/black world scene as well as one of the strongest names of the national Italian metal scene.

Attivi dal 2009, i Voltumna non sono la classica extreme metal band che ci si aspetterebbe. La loro proposta artistica fonde le sue radici nella tradizionale scuola death/black metal, lasciando al tema portante del progetto il compito di rendere facilmente distinguibili dalla massa. Nei loro brani si fa infatti un salto nel passato, ripercorrendo miti e percorso storico della civilizzazione etrusca. Il loro percorso discografico prende il via nel 2011, con la pubblicazione di “Chimera”, EP di quattro brani registrato ai Fear No One Studio ed esempio perfetto per comprendere chiaramente il tipo di percorso artistico preso dal quartetto, che successivamente darà il via a un’intensa attività live sul territorio nazionale. Nell’estate 2012 i Voltumna rientrano ai Fear No One Studio dando il via alle lavorazioni di “Damnatio Sacrorum”, debut album che vede la presenza di Paolo Pieri (Hour Of Penance, Aborym) nelle vesti di produttore. Dieci brani di pura brutalità old-school, così potrebbe essere definito il disco, che verrà poi licenziato dall’etichetta discografica inglese Cold Birth Records e che porterà la band a esibirsi in tutta Europa al fianco di compagini internazionali come Inquisition, Taake e Carpathian Forest. Nel 2014 il combo torna nuovamente nel medesimo studio con Paolo Pieri, questa volta per dare alla luce “Disciplina Etrusca”, disco di dodici brani che pone ancor più in risalto il marchio death-black del progetto e che porterà i Voltumna a chiudere un calendario live di oltre 100 shows in tutto il mondo, arrivando a esibirsi in alcuni dei più noti festival come il MetalGate Czech DeathFest, il britannico Incineration Festival, l’ucraino Carpathian Alliance, il Metal Crowd Open Air in Bielorussia, un tour in Sudafrica assieme ai Behemoth e uno estivo negli States. Il disco in questione è un concept album legato a ritualità e costumi dell’Era Etrusca, pubblicato nel corso del 2015 da Subsound Records e il cui artwork è stato curato da Marcelo Vasco (Belphegor, Borknagar…). L’ascesa della macchina da guerra etrusca continuerà imponente per tutto il 2016, con un tour confermato in Cina nel corso dell’estate e il loro nome già presente nei bill delle edizioni 2017 del tedesco Ragnarok e del bulgaro Autumn Of Souls. Nell’autunno 2016 inizieranno le registrazioni di “Dodecapoli”, concept album incentrato sulle dodici città della confederazione Etrusca e che vedrà nuovamente all’opera Marcelo Vasco nella parte visual. Nonostante la loro giovanissima età (22 anni di media), i Voltumna sono da considerare come un nome già affermato della scena death/black mondiale nonché punto di forza della scena metal nazionale.
