“Hate To Love You“ – heart and soul caught in a battle of opposites

We all know these distinctive moments in our lives, which ultimately catapult us onto our right life paths like an angry wake-up call. Victoria’s wake-up call, however, was a little louder than usual: “Finding out that I have a heart condition forced me to really think about what’s important in my life. That is why I decided then and there on the operating table that I had to write my own songs and make my own music.”

Victoria feels right at home in multiple worlds at the same time. Therefore it comes as no surprise that her single “Hate To Love You” merges quite a few supposed contradictions as well. Her soulful voice is the centre of her songs, which unfold musically beyond the genre’s everyday stereotypes. Playful electronic elements dispel this musical genre’s usual run-of-the-mill components.
Her music and voice find each other quickly, and instantly set up the next contradiction, as Victoria’s panoramic voice creates space for honest and intimate moments between her music and lyrics.
And yet the supposed contradictions continue: After combining soul with electronics, followed by epic vocal worlds with personal lyrical landscapes, Soul – a genre that is deeply rooted in the English language - encounters another language that is not necessarily known for its smooth phonetics: Polish.
“Even though I grew up talking Polish, I never learned it in school. Therefore it took me a while to find out if I could write Polish lyrics that still felt right musically. I sing my Polish lyrics deliberately with a little more Soul. I also try to avoid hard consonants when I am writing them. I want to show people how sexy the Polish language sounds, even if they do not speak this language.”

The English, Polish, electronic, epic, and intimate “Hate To Love You” is just the starting point and work on the many joint worlds of Victoria’s album are already taking on exciting shapes.
