About Turley Richards

In 1969, Turley Richards appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. At the end of Turley’s performance, when Carson stopped clapping, he turned back to the audience and the cameras and said “I think you may hear a lot from that young man, Turley Richards.”
Over the years, Carson’s prediction came to life. Turley’s musical abilities have been lauded by people like Mike Post who wrote the television theme songs to Magnum P.I., The Rockford Files, Law & Order, and NYPD Blue. Mike said, “Turley is a drop-dead, great singer…what a talent.” Longtime friend Joe Boyland, who managed the rock group Lynrd Skynrd and was instrumental in the first hits of Mariah Carey and Celine Dion said “I…appreciate and respect his integrity and professional attitude. Turley always wants to make everything as good as possible…this makes for good music. I highly recommend him.” On a personal note, Turley considers one of his highest compliments throughout his long career to be when, as a mature man, an entire room of high-powered men were humbled to tears during his performance in Santa Rosa, California.
Today, an active Turley Richards is still performing at small concert halls and night clubs as well as corporate functions, where he combines shows with lectures. He grants interviews on television and radio shows, and conducts songwriting seminars. His vocal coaching business is in its 20th year, and he also teaches songwriting skills to new writers as well as providing consulting and career guidance to bands and singers. Several of his vocal students have made it to the final performances on the television shows, “The Voice” and “American Idol.”
Turley is still writing songs that tell his story and are added to his impressive collection of over 650 original works. Turley Richards lives in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife, Laura where he is still close to his two children and grandchildren.
In the end, it appears that the great Johnny Carson spoke the truth. The world continues to see a lot of Turley Richards.
