Thomas Nordlund

Thomas Nordlund is a guitarist and composer based in Minneapolis, MN. He holds a B.A. in Guitar Performance from the University of Minnesota-Morris and studied with Roger Brotherhood, Jaime Guiscafre, and Tim Sparks. In addition to performing as a solo artist, he is an active sideman with Sarah Morris, the Jana Nyberg Group, Moon and Pollution, Gesualdo, Andrew Foreman, and the Byron Johnson-Blanchard Quartet, and has performed at venues throughout the Midwest including the Dakota, Artist’s Quarter, Aster Cafe, 331 Club, Red Stag, Barbette, and Honey. Nordlund is currently composing and arranging music for solo guitar and small ensembles that draws on jazz, classical, folk, ambient and acoustic fingerstyle traditions. For him, the process of composing and performing music is an act of fearlessly giving voice to the inner life, the shapes, colors, lines, structures, and textures of thought and emotion. Whether he’s playing solo or improvising in a small ensemble, he values the wisdom of the body and strives to create emotional resonance with the listener, shifting the characteristics of that resonance in ways that allow a graceful and coherent unfolding of musical momentum.
