About Thomas Anahory
Thomas Anahory is a Portuguese musician, sound designer, and radio host known for his perseverance and creativity. He was born with a malformation in his urinary tract, which has led to a life-long battle with chronic illness. Despite undergoing over 26 surgeries, two kidney transplants, and more than ten years of dialysis, Thomas has established himself as one of Portugal's most compelling musicians.
Thomas's love for music started at a young age, and he quickly became known for his creative and heartfelt compositions. He formed his first band, Go, during his adolescence, and it helped him to create a rockstar lifestyle, even while undergoing dialysis. His passion for music never waned, and he continued to write and perform throughout his struggles.
Thomas's music is deeply inspired by his life experiences, which he poetically translates into his records. His first album, "So Much Of Me," is an intimate portrayal of his life's most significant events, from the struggles to the moments of triumph. It's a musical biography that speaks to his soul and connects with his audience on a personal level.
Thomas formed the band called "The Groovys" who played an important role in the creation of his second album, "Thank Your Lucky Stars". The original members included Bernardo Araújo, Francisco Araújo, Jorge Figueiredo, and José Anahory (his cousin), on drums. Later, Vasco Stocker Vilhena joined the band.
The Groovys faced a difficult time when José Anahory passed away in 2019, but after a hiatus, Thomas reunited with the band with João Carvalho on drums. Thomas considers "The Groovys" to be his music psychologists and regards them as the Portuguese equivalent of the "E Street Band".
His second album, "Thank Your Lucky Stars," is a testament to his musical talent, confirming that his music is here to stay. With its infectious melodies and deep emotions, it showcases his love for music, the craft he has honed over the years, and his ability to create music that resonates with his listeners.
Thomas has played at major events, captivating audiences with his unique sound and emotional performances. In addition to his music career, he is also a bodyboarding enthusiast. He has found solace and peace in the ocean, where he can ride the waves and leave his physical struggles behind.
Thomas Anahory's journey is a testament to the power of music to heal, inspire, and transcend boundaries. Through his heartfelt compositions and emotional performances, he has touched the hearts of many, becoming a true inspiration and a beacon of hope for people around the world. His resilience, creativity, and perseverance in the face of adversity have not only made him a respected musician but also a role model for anyone facing their own struggles. Thomas Anahory's story is one that reminds us that with determination and a love for what we do, we can overcome anything that comes our way.
