About The Walls

Formed in 1998 by two ex-members of The Stunning, brothers Steve and Joe Wall, The Walls debut album Hi-Lo was released in 2000. U2 offered them a support at their second show in Slane Castle in 2002 after the band sent them copies of the album. In 2002 a new single To the Bright and Shining Sun was used on a TV commercial and became a hit in Ireland. Their second album New Dawn Breaking (2005) hit number 5 in the Irish charts. The movie Begin Again starring Keira Knightley & Mark Ruffalo features The Walls Drowning Pool over the opening credits. The track Open Road proved a favourite with Nic Harcourt on his KCRW show Morning Becomes Eclectic, he invited the band to Santa Monica to play on the show in 2006. The band's 3rd album Stop the Lights came out in 2012. The first single Bird in a Cage became a firm favourite with Irish radio, in particular with Irish DJ Tony Fenton who championed them. In 2013 & 2014 the band played their first shows in Russia. In 2014 the band decided to take a break to concentrate on other projects, but have not broken up. Drummer Rory Doyle recorded & toured with Irish band Bell X1 and also Hozier with whom he still plays. Steve developed a new career as an actor, appearing in the TV series Vikings, Moone Boy, Silent Witness, Rebellion. He recently played the Jazz musician Chet Baker in a new Dutch feature film My Foolish Heart, about the trumpeter’s last day in Amsterdam where he died in 1988. Joe Wall teaches in BIMM Music College, Dublin.
