About The Salvo

"Enough energy to make the energizer bunny look like Brian the Snail" - Sheffield Scenester "We were blown away by our favourite support act of the tour" - Gliss speaking on NME Radio "The most exciting and refreshing band to come out of Sheffield recently. These handsome boys know how to put on a live show" - Soyo "They take the Rock ‘n’ Roll hall of fame by the horns and rip into it with pure unadulterated abandon" – Tony Beesley The Salvo, consisting of Luke Baker (vocals / guitar), brothers Jack Rodgers (lead guitar), James Rodgers (bass) and Matthew Bate (drums), have drawn comparisons to greats such as The Libertines and The Strokes. Having proven themselves to be more than your average Sheffield indie rock band, the low-fi guitar driven sound combines heartfelt lyrics with an unstoppable energy. Both of which fuels their performances with angst and frustration at popular music and the stereotypical attitudes of this culture. The Salvo and their meaning is a simile for their performance; a simultaneous outburst of sound resembling the discharge of firearms. The four lads grew up with similar music tastes drawing inspiration from bands such as The Cribs and The Maccabees. Since their alcoholic induced formation in 2009, The Salvo have gained a reputation for their unpredictable but hugely energetic live performances. This is catalysed further by the infectiously catchy tunes and raw set lists, which often feature a song only hours old. This reputation has quickly gained momentum, resulting in the lads being well received by both local and national press. This repertoire of media interest has included coverage on BBC, Roundhouse and NME Radio. The early part of 2011 has seen the lads writing and recording new material for their self-titled début, The Salvo EP, with producer Alan Smyth (Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers). The band have racked up an extensive list of live shows supporting the likes of The View, Twisted Wheel, Gliss, The Violet May and Sound Of Guns. Intimate guerrilla gigs all over the UK have often resulted in blood-spattering, guitar-snapping, police-sirening carnage. It doesn’t end here. The band are preparing themselves for a UK Tour of The Salvo EP along with other gigs to be confirmed. Not only will they be taking each city by storm, but The Salvo will be filling the prestigious opening slot at The Bowery during this years Tramlines Festival. The Salvo EP - OUT NOW!
