About The Ruse

The Ruse
THE RUSE came together in New York City in the spring of 2004 when three long-time friends - singer John Dauer, guitarist Jim Bilus and drummer Jason Young formed the band with Atlanta bassist Mark Stolze. By the end of the year the Ruse was playing some of New York City's hottest music clubs and had gathered a devoted following of fans.

The Ruse headed west at the beginning of 2005 in support of their debut record Invasion and set up shop in Los Angeles. After spending much of 2005 building a fan base in Southern California, The Ruse hit the road again in September with another coast-to-coast tour. The latter part of 2005 would result in the creation of the band’s sophomore independent album Light In Motion.

The new record, released on February 28th 2006, has taken the band to the next level. Soon after the release, the band received multiple award nominations for Light In Motion and a myriad of strong reviews.
THE RUSE just wrapped up a two-month national tour in July that included a slot on the BMI showcase at the Florida Music Festival in Orlando, as well as a number of sold out shows across the country. Their music is also featured in several episodes of MTV’s new reality show “The Hills” premiering this summer.

“I haven’t heard a more solid album then “Light In Motion” in the last year or so.” - Jeffrey Kurtis, AllAgesZine.com

Front man John Dauer is known for his soulful voice and crystal tone. Dauer's ability to exude emotive intensity through high octave, broad ranging power and haunting lyrical compositions are truly the gifts of only a few.

Guitarist Jim Bilus is The Ruse's primary songwriter and composer. Bilus is a gifted writer blessed with a natural musical ability. Jim layers the Ruse's music with powerful melodic riffs featuring subtle but prominent effect driven tones.

Bassist Mark Stolze plays an integral part of the band laying down the low-end that glues the songs together. Mark is affectionately known as "the general" for his devotion to keeping the band on a rigorous schedule.

Jason Young kicks the groove behind the drums, bringing his love for a wide variety of musical styles to the Ruse's musical arsenal. Jason also doubles as the band's in-house producer and engineer. With his laid back and playful personality, Jason has become the solid backbone of the Ruse.

The music of THE RUSE transcends boundaries of age and genre. Winning over new fans show by show, The Ruse is bringing its striking and innovative brand of rock music across the U.S.
