The Melting Caps Longstanding Sydney bands Crossing Red Lines and Flick The Bean merged in 2016 to form The Melting Caps, a 5-piece group spouting vibrant indie-roots music, combined with influences including hip hop, ska and blues All five members brought with them their own individual sounds but a shared passion for having a ball and making damn good music while they’re at it. The guys write all their own songs, usually riddled with swipes at the government, as well as those who choose to judge an entire race, religion or sexuality based on a few tools. Lead singer Harlin Firmins’ distinctive voice shifts effortlessly between sweet melodies and spitting out ska-style poetry, while Luke Colombo offers strong back-up on the guitar with his vibrant 90s rock tones. Tom Smith belts out warm fuzzy blues on his sax, bringing some serious funk to the band and this eclectic mix of sounds is tightly pulled together with Gus Hart lording the skins and Luke Martin slappin’ da bass.
