About The Dovetail Trio

Presenting England's traditional songs with a bold and fresh approach, The Dovetail Trio explores familiar narratives with infectious energy and a passion for musical heritage. This collaboration effortlessly combines the distinctive voices and acclaimed instrumental talents of BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Jamie Roberts, BBC Performing Arts Award winner Rosie Hood, and Newcastle Folk Degree alumnus Matt Quinn.

The Dovetail Trio’s debut album Wing of Evening was released in September 2015 on RootBeat Records. The album is a "combination of richly rounded accented vocals, skin-tight harmonies and sparse yet polished instrumentation" (FolkWords) and has been well received with 4* reviews from the Telegraph, R2 and Songlines and national radio play on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3. The album features a number of unusual versions of traditional English songs alongside an American folk story, a traditional Scottish whaling song, and even a French/Canadian tune set. Tight vocal harmonies and skilled musicianship make this an exciting debut album.

Barnsley's Jamie Roberts is renowned for his narrative singing and driving guitar rhythms. In 2007 he joined folk quartet Kerfuffle with Hannah James and Sam Sweeney, and in both 2013 & 2016 was a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee with duo Gilmore & Roberts.

Rosie Hood's pure voice and engaging performances are garnering widespread acclaim. With a keen eye on the history of the songs she sings, particularly those of her native Wiltshire, she has performed at a number of the country's leading festivals and folk clubs, and opened for the Cecil Sharp Project. Rosie is, for 2015, a BBC Performing Arts Fellow with EFDSS.

Multi-instrumentalist Matt Quinn has been playing the melodeon, mandolin and fiddle, and singing his way around the English folk scene for the last seven years in various bands including Dogan & the Boombox Karavan, The Mighty Quinns and the Eliza Carthy Ceilidh Band.
