About The Converters

The Converters The Converters formed in 2014, coming from quite different areas of the rock ’n’ roll spectrum. They have quickly developed a sound that has already led many to comment on first hearing how it reminds them of classic rockin’ records of old, while at the same time sounding new, fresh & exciting. The set delves into the Rock ’n’ Roll and Rhythm and Blues pantheon, complemented with a steadily growing arsenal of original, self-penned material. Del Bartle, Guitar and vocals. Del recently left The Godfathers after a five year stint, following the band’s UK tour supporting Stiff Little Fingers. Del was the main player in recording & writing their well received first album in 15 years ‘Jukebox Fury’ which was completed at his Credible Hulk Productions studio. The band also appeared during this time with The Stranglers, The Buzzcocks and Wilco Johnson among others, making TV and radio appearances in Europe & America. Del was a founder member of the 80s South London cult rockers The Sid Presley Experience, releasing two indie chart topping EPs, and appearing on tour with Billy Bragg, The Clash, The Pogues, New Model Army, Richard Hell & others, also appearing on the channel Four show ‘The Tube’ and a number of BBC Radio sessions, including The John Peel Show. From the ashes of The Sids, Del went on to form The Unholy Trinity which released the album ‘The Unholy Trinity Rise To The Occasion’ in 1986, and played across Europe, with more radio & TV, including sessions for Andy Kershaw. Del has also worked for Rykodisc & legendary producer Joe Boyd, bringing him into contact with a breadth of artists such as Robert Wyatt, Morphine, The Last Poets, John Trudell and Mikey Dread. Del appears on Robert Wyatt's 2007 album ‘Comic Opera’ and a little known fact is his big screen debut appearance, with Christian Bale & Emily Watson in the film ‘Metroland’ as part of punk band ‘The Subverts’! Dave Clark, vocals and bass. In recent years Dave was performing and recording with Western Electric and The High Flyers and is a veteran of the rockabilly & psychobilly scene. A well known figure on the circuit who has graced the stage with a plethora of original luminaries including Little Richard, The Crickets and The Comets. His road worn upright bass bears testament to that with many a legendary autograph to be made out beneath the years of rocking sweat! Dave is the owner of Studio 56 analogue recording services, where some of the most authentic rockabilly of modern times has been recorded, including among others, The River Rhythm Trio’s first releases. Phil D’Archambaud, Drums. Phil is a relative newcomer to the live circuit, but has a longstanding affiliation with the music scene, via his business interests in the Hot Rod/Classic Car World, with many great restorations for some very famous clients. The Converters rehearsal space, located at his premises, provides a fine backdrop and inspiration to the band’s activities. The band are completed with long time blues enthusiast, and frequent visitor to the Chicago scene Vernon Bastow on blues harp. The Converters
