About The Chapman Family
The Chapman Family are a group of four miserable northerners from Teesside, England and have been playing together since May 2006 – Kingsley Chapman (vocals/guitar), Pop Chapman (bass), Paul Chapman (guitar), and Phil Chapman (drums). They decided to create their own brand of intensely dark and noisy indie as they were tired of being bored and uninspired by the same old bands week in, week out. They are as much inspired by folk as hardcore punk and their occasionally chaotic gigs can change from euphoric to the apocalypse in an instant.
Apart from building a ferocious cult following and playing over 200 gigs around the UK they have appeared in Artrocker and NME on numerous occasions and appeared on compilations for Dance to The Radio in the UK and Firestation Records in Germany as well as being played on BBC Radio, XFM and college radio in the USA and have recently recorded a three song session for Radio One at Maida Vale.
In June 2008 The Chapman Family played on the BBC Introducing Stage at the Glastonbury Festival and finished their set by continually swearing at the audience, smashing their guitars and jumping into the crowd. A good time was had by all.
They have a superhumanly hard working ethic and give absolutely everything to their performances - equipment is often left damaged in a heap onstage, dripping with sweat and blood from being beaten to within an inch of its life, long after the final note has been struck.
