About The Capital Dance Orchestra

[English version below] The Capital Dance Orchestra unter der Leitung des Geigers David Canisius bietet in seiner originalgetreuen Berliner Big-Band Besetzung den Glanz und Glamour der legendären Berliner Tanzpaläste. In its original big band line-up, The Capital Dance Orchestra, conducted by violinist David Canisius, offers the glitz and glamour of Berlin’s legendary dance halls. The brilliant orchestra feels right at home on every kind of dance floor: it is versatile and at the same time emanates an impressive stage presence. Its members are professional musicians that skilfully master subtile nuances with differentiated sound volume, set free unbridled energy, fascinate with poignant show elements, congenially accompanied by the two singers Lisa Bassenge and Simon Marlow. The established concert series “Stars Go Swing” brings together the orchestra’s musical brilliance and the uniqueness of its star performers such as Barbara Schöneberger, whose talent as a singer was discovered by The Capital Dance Orchestra, as well as Nina Hagen, Katja Riemann, Jochen Kowalski, Jeanette Biedermann, Louie Austen or the adorable duo Katharine Mehrling and Sharon Brauner performing as the “Swinging Jewels.” Far away from puristic boundaries, the Capital Dance Orchestra combines extraordinary musical variety with pure love of experiment on a high level or wins everyone over with a show consisting of live swing remixes and house tunes by DJ Naughty. International music styles in languages such as German, English, Russian, and Yiddish mirror the melting pot that is Berlin with all its numerous influences and current trends that constitute the metropolis’ identity. International stars represent music of entirely different eras, styles and countries which are all rooted in Berlin and live on with the Capital Dance Orchestra. Rock diva Nina Hagen interprets German “Schlager“ of Berlin’s roaring 20s and 30s in her own special way. Pop star Jeanette Biedermann sings American swing classics with distinctive force and soulfulness like you would expect from an energetic 1000 volts lady. The world-famous opera singer and countertenor Jochen Kowalski interprets not only popular evergreens but also Russian tango. His voice enchants with overwhelming charm. The international crooner Louie Austen brings “Frank Sinatra glamour” of the American 60s to the stage of our times. Both ladies that make up the “Swinging Jewels,” Katharine Mehrling and Sharon Brauner, perform as the legendary Barry Sisters. Fantastic music from the American 30s to the 50s, with a surprising mixture of Jewish folklore (no Klezmer) and fully fledged American big band sound. The music is uniquely brilliant, humorous, and energetically emotional and played in such a way that escaping from its appeal is quite impossible. Both artists sing Yiddish lyrics and emanate a first-class stage presence. The musical time travel hereby builds on the important Jewish history of Berlin. it's all about music, 3rd-best Big Band in the world of today
