About The Break

Most bands in the world can be lumped into one category or another, they are shuffled, redefined, and in that way they begin to lose the qualities that could make them important or meaningful. The greatest bands, the most influential or memorable, are the ones who don't try to fill the role set for them, who don't pursue anything other than the desire to make music, and the need to express that art to an audience. From the start, The Break has had this aesthetic in mind.

The Break's creation, the final product of former collaborations between Mike Rummel, Kevin Tunney, and Moss Allen, with the subsequent addition of John Waverka and Danny Windas, is the best effort of five individuals to create really good music and to have a good time, while trying to say something important about the world. With two records, multiple U.S. and European tours behind them, The Break have joined up with the angry young men at Ferret Music, to try and create the best record the label has ever released. Teaming up for the first time with producer Alex Newport, who in the past has produced records by Samiam, The Locust, At the Drive-in, Ikara Colt and Mars Volta, to name a few, The band will be in the studio this spring.

The Break have spent the winter writing what they have said is their best music yet. "There isn't really any way to explain it" says singer John Waverka, "I feel better about these songs than anything I've ever been a part of before." "I feel the same way" says guitarist Mike Rummel. "I can't say which ones they are yet, but some of the songs on this record - they're the best we've ever written."

The band hopes that this new release will finally bring them where they want to be, playing in front of people who want to see them, making music that matters, and having their van searched by every State Trooper that crosses their path. This summer they will be touring until they hate each other and the Break plan to kick, stab, burn and eat every person who comes to see them play. If you have a problem with vandalism, that's fine, no one said anything about vandalism. The Break is a band from New Jersey, check out some songs to see what they sound like. Thanks.
