The Bayonettes

The Bayonettes started in 2002, bassist/vocalist Emmalee Johnson-Kao and guitarist/vocalist Jasmine Stade's kindergarten year of elementary school. They were introduced by a teacher, Jasmine told a joke about a cabbage, and they've been musical partners ever since. They created their name by feminizing the weapon "bayonet", and paying homage to their upbringing in the Bay Area. The Bayonettes have performed (as just Emmalee and Jasmine) at a variety of foodspots (Actual Cafe, High Street Station Cafe, Starry Plough Pub) and film screenings (Creative Growth Art Gallery, The New Parkway), as well as several street fairs and festivals (Eat Real Festival, Mini Maker Faire, Temescal Street Fair, Asian American Film Festival, Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival). They went on to record their 5-track EP titled "Embryo" and had the opportunity to play at "Oakland's Got Talent", a region wide talent competition in Oakland's Fox Theater. The Bayonettes have since performed at places like Awaken Cafe, Leo's Music Club, SF's JCC Battle of the Bands, Cloud 9 Berkeley, Caffe Trieste, VAMP Music, Art, and Consignment, and The Naming Gallery. After playing a few successful generator-run shows in San Francisco's Sutro Baths Cave, they set out on recording their first album "Peaches". Emmalee lays down the bass, along with floating lead vocals, and the occasional harmonica solo. Jasmine plays textural guitar, utilizing slide and delay along with awesome backup harmonies.
