Thaïs Diarra music

Bio en français plus bas... As a young writer, composer and Afrosoul singer Thaïs Diarra has always raised questions with her texts, whilst carrying a message of positivity. In 2002, Thaïs Diarra went back to her roots, travelling from Mali to Senegal which became her second home. Here, she met renowned rapper Didier Awadi and in 2004 she was welcomed as a member to the PBS Radical group. Together they toured Africa and Europe where Thaïs did recordings and collaborations. In 2005 she met Swiss musician and producer Fred Hirschy (Tumi Molekane, Fredy Massamba), with whom she collaborated on a regular basis. The results of this musical cross-pollination are evident in Métisse – Thaïs Diarra’s first solo album that came out in 2013. Recorded in Switzerland and Senegal, the essence of Métisse is in its mixture of African instruments such as kora and balafon, with new American soul vibes. Several prominent musicians participated on Métisse, including Didier Awadi, Fredy Massamba and Noumoucounda Cissoko. The texts are in English, French, Wolof and Bambara. With this album she started the successful “Afrosoul Tour” in Switzerland, Senegal ,Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania where her music received a warm welcome. She also performed at the renowned Sauti za Busara festival in Zanzibar in 2015. 2015 was the perfect time for the second album. She worked with a bigger production for her new music including horns and the inclusion of more reggae to her recipe of african traditional sounds and soul. This album was produced by Fred Hirschy as well as composed by him and Thaïs Diarra. It speaks about hope and self-confidence, it`s a celebration of Women, femininity and sisterhood. Her experience in music made her proudly realize how much women are starting to embrace themselves. When women rise, the whole nation rises with her. She wants to dedicate this album to these women of ambition that are still fighting for respect and equality, especially in Africa. Auteure-compositrice-interprète, Thaïs Diarra se remet sans cesse en question à travers sa musique et le message qu'elle veut délivrer. Née à Bienne (Suisse), elle entreprend en 2002 un retour aux sources et part vivre en Afrique. Elle rencontre au Sénégal le rappeur Didier Awadi et, en 2004, elle est accueillie au sein du PBS Radikal. S'enchaînent alors des tournées en Afrique et en Europe ainsi que des enregistrements et collaborations à travers le monde. En 2005, elle rencontre le musicien-arrangeur suisse, Fred Hirschy (Tumi Molekane, Fredy Massamba), avec qui elle entame une collaboration. Cette complicité musicale aboutit à un premier album solo, Métisse, enregistré entre la Suisse et le Sénégal, dans lequel ils mêlent des instruments africains (kora, balafon) à la neo soul américaine. Influencé par la soul, le hip-hop et la musique mandingue, c‘est un album métissé, afrosoul, avec des invités de marque comme Awadi, Fredy Massamba, Gunman Xuman et Noumoucounda Cissoko. Dans ses textes, chantés en anglais, français, wolof ou bambara, elle parle de tolérance, d'espoir mais aussi de thèmes plus graves comme l'exil, la persécution ou les diverses difficultés rencontrées en Afrique. Avec cet album elle entame l'Afrosoul tour entre la Suisse, le Sénégal, le Kenya, le Rwanda et la Tanzanie. Elle se produit également au célèbre festival Sauti za Busara à Zanzibar en 2015. 2015 marque l'année de son deuxième album. Comme pour son premier opus, elle s'est associée à son producteur et arrangeur, Fred Hirschy, dont la réalisation est cette fois plus importante, avec l'utilisation de cuivres, claviers et une orientation plus reggae, quoique toujours afrosoul. Elle y parle toujours d'espoir et de confiance mais cette fois s'intéresse particulièrement à la Femme et à sa place dans la société. Son expérience de chanteuse lui a fait réaliser à quel point les femmes, dans le monde entier, commencent à s'affranchir et à se libérer. Lorsque les femmes s'élèvent, c'est toute la nation qui s'élève avec elles. Thaïs Diarra aimerait dédier cet album à toutes ces femmes d'ambition qui se battent chaque jour pour le respect et l'égalité, particulièrement en Afrique.
