About Subhead

Experimental techno duo made up of Londoners Jason Leach and Phil Wells. In 1996 they set up their own self-titled label, releasing 12"s exclusively. Wells moved to Tokyo in 1999, branching out his career even further under the name DJ Sueme. Subhead would soon become widely reputed for their energetic live shows, mixing their techno core with both hip hop sound aesthetics and a solid dose of punk rock attitude. In 2000, they finally broke with their habit of releasing vinyl only, when the debut album "Neon Rocka" surfaced on legendary techno label Tresor. Since then they've continued to release material on Subhead Recordings, founding sublabels 2CB and Xtras to keep up with their prolific studio habits.

Unfortunately, Phil Wells passed away in December 2007 due to a fatal brain haemorrage.
