About Stock

David "Stock" Baird entered the world on the 12th of May, 1977at the GeneralHospital, in Pontiac, Michigan. He lived in a trailer park in Oxford, Michigan until the age of 5. When he was 5 yrs old His father died by a drowning incident at StoneyLake just outside of Detroit. His mom then moved the trailer, his brother of 1 year and himself to Vestaburg, Michigan about 2.5 hours north of Detroit. While growing up Stock learned how to play the trumpet, marched in a band, and even acted in plays. When Stock was 14 years old he visited his father's family in Detroit frequently and started looking for a career in Hip-Hop. He started working with a couple local producers in Detroit and Pontiac and He grew up in the church and studied the Psalms and Proverbs for life lessons, poetry, and inner peace. After being ousted from his youth group because they thought the beats were from the "devil", he continued his own journey to find his place in music. He also cut his first demo, then had an album with the group "MindFlow" at 18. After graduation, Stock moved to Denver, Colorado, Los Angeles, California, and traveled through many states learning the club scene and music in different regions of the USA. Stock then attended college at GreenvilleCollege to learn Studio Recording, Voice, Piano, Speech, Radio Broadcasting and science. He did a show at the community center and met his wife Helen. She happened to be from the UK. Stock and Helen then moved to VeniceandNorthport, Florida and things looked like it was going to be perfect until the phone call. Helen received a phone call from her dad saying that her mum had cancer. Helen came home in hysterics and Stock told Helen that he would rather have her be in England with her mum. So they sold everything they had. They sold the house, cars, dogs.absolutely everything. After dealing with immigration, Stock and Helen moved to the UK and lived in Preston, England. Stock studied hard and tried to work his way up as a Stockbroker in the corporate world and leave music behind, but his passion for music was too great. Stock entered a competition called Rock Idol with 97.4 Rock FM. They were looking for unsigned artists to send in material and the listeners would vote for the winner. After many weeks of Stock rising to the top, Stock had to perform live on radio for the final. Stock performed and the listeners voted Stock as the winner. For Stock's prize, he was allowed to perform in front of 30,000 people at Ewood Park Football Stadium, with Daniel Beddingfield, Ian Van Dahl, and Miss-Teeq to name a few. He got mobbed at Mcdonalds afterwards. From there the snowball for Stock really started. He then, out of pure chance, started working with multi-platinum producerDwight Reynolds (produced Akon, Whitney Houston, Tina Novak, Beverly Knight). Stock then found out about BBC Radio 1 having a "On The Road Roadshow" with Steve Lemaq. Stock went to Bolten and performed live and received a standing ovation. The Sunday Surgery producer Sam came up to Stock and placed him on the Sunday Surgery show with Emma B. Emma B plugged Stock to over 5 million listeners. She then said that "If there is any Managing Director out there that has large amounts of money at his disposal, you need to sign this guy!" She then played Stock again on the Jo Wiley show during lunch time two days later. He went to London and worked with UK producers, Konkrete Productions, Clique Productions, and Soundrules. He sold CDs on the streets just to survive. Stock then went to be placed on Fastrax and received over 1 million listeners through the data collected from Independent Local Radio Stations across the UK. After that, Stock then did many club shows and festivals, he then moved back to Michigan and developed his production skills and also promoted his limited edition "Stockmashin" album. He also started producing local artists from Detroit, Mt.Pleasant, and Lansing. Then in 2004, Stock finally hit it International. He was scouted out from the Internet site Hitquarters.com by Luke from Lukehits.com, and Luke chased Stock down to place his song "Bounce" in the $114 Million film "White Chicks" starring the Wayans Brothers. Stock sold CD's on the street easily by just mentioning the films name. Since the White Chicks Film, Stock has received over 60,000 downloads through various sites and over 600,000 hits on www.stockmashin.com. He has also received nominations at the Las Vegas Music Awards as Best Rising Hip-Hop Artist and Best Unsigned Artist at the London Underground Music Awards. In 2006, he was a Top 5 contestant at Midem 06 for the Activision game True Crime, chosen by Tim Riley himself, President of Activision. He is now working with Concorde International Artistes, Bernie Resnick (Timbalands Attorney), PigFactory Music Publishing, Star Search Group (Korea, China, and Japan), and is an active participant in the most exclusive online social community asmallworld.net.
