About Steve Swindells' Music

Steve Swindells Steve's first album 'Messages' was released worldwide on RCA records in 1974, when he was just 22. Featuring some awesome musicians (including Roxy Music's John Gustafson and King Crimson's Mike Giles) and a full orchestra (arranged by Martyn Ford) on many tracks, it received rave reviews at the time. It was recently reissued on Esoteric/Cherry Red with a bonus CD of the previously unreleased Swallow album. In 1976 he played keyboards on Pilot's final album 'Two's A Crowd', which was produced in Abbey Road's famous studio 2 by Alan Parsons. In 1978 he joined The Hawklords and played keyboards and sang backing vocals on their classic album 25 Years On, and toured the UK with them that autumn. In 1979 he left the band and recorded some solo demos with Simon King (drums), Huw Lloyd-Langton (guitar) and Nic Potter (bass). He went to NYC in the autumn of that year and landed a major record deal within three days! He was signed to Atco (part of Warner Music) by its then president Doug Morris (who is now the president of Sony Music). The result was the classic album Fresh blood, which also featured Steve's original version of the subsequent Hawkind cover 'Shot Down In the Night'. Roger Daltrey also covered two songs from this album on two albums. The album also received rave reviews ('Boy, can this guy write lyrics!' Rolling Stone) and reached number three in the US airplay charts. Fresh Blood was reissued in 2009 on Atomhenge/Cherry Red. Disillusioned with music industry - when Atco didn't take-up the option for the second album and he therefore dropped by Trinifold, the management of The Who - Steve reinvented himself as club promoter and party organiser and became very successful in that field. But he never stopped writing and recording songs. The 22 demos which he recorded in 1980, which were intended to be on his second Atco album, gathered dust for over thirty years, until Frenchy Gloder of Flicknife Records heard them and immediately decided to release them as a double CD on his label. The result is The Lost Albums - available now at iTunes, PLAY.com, Amazon.co.uk and many more. Steve also has a new, online album of demos and home recordings dating from the late 80s throughout to the present day. It's called New Crescent Yard and there are several free downloads: http://steveswindells.bandcamp.com He also has a Soundcloud site: http://soundcloud.com/steve-swindells And a Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/steveswindells Steve is a singer/songwriter, musician, programmer and producer.
