Stephen P. Harvey

A native of Rochester, PA, Stephen has been involved in music most of his life. Ever since childhood, he has been involved in vocal music; singing in the children's choir at his home church, Second Baptist of Rochester, and in many large choirs at baptist conventions. Once given the option, Stephen started the instrumental and choral music in public school. After being involved with marching band, concert band, jazz band, choirs, and musicals in high school, Stephen decided to continue his study of music. Since his teachers were some of his biggest influences in and out of the classroom, it only seemed natural to combine his admiration of teachers and love of music; therefore, he decided to major in Music Education for his undergraduate study. Stephen began studying at Seton Hill University in the Fall of 2010. Though majoring in voice, he decided to continue his pursuit of instrumental music, joining many instrumental and vocal ensembles while at Seton Hill University. Interested in the idea of creating new music, Stephen began studying composition sometime into his studies at Seton Hill. Also, after experiencing the possibilities for music in the jazz idiom, Stephen decided to begin studying jazz theory, improvisation, and arranging. In May of 2014, Stephen graduated with his Bachelor of Music in Music Education. He is continuing his music studies, with the Masters of Music in Jazz Studies program at Youngstown State University (graduating in May of 2016).
