Southern Edge Band

Southern Edge Band is a country band on the edge of rock... We are located around West Plains, Missouri, with 2 members from West Plains, 1 from Mountain Grove, 1 from Willow Springs and 1 from Springfield. As a group, Southern Edge has opened up for groups such as BlackJack Billy, Cody McCarver, Confederate Railroad, Granger Smith/Earl Dibbles Jr and Jared Blake. They have played various venues including the small and intimate 'corner bar' to large dance clubs, biker rallys, customer appreciation events, Relay for Life fund raisers, weddings and multiple benefits for local businesses or members of the public who have had a devastating life event. Gene is the Front man of the band, the lead singer and rhythm guitar player. He has been playing for the public since he was 14 years old and with family and friends for years prior to that! He has concentrated on his singing as that is his main 'instrument' and the guitar is his 2nd instrument. His musical influences as a young singer and player were Merle Haggard and Hank Williams Jr. As the years passed his musical tastes spread to The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company. The 2 styles blended over the years and created and formed his performing style. He brings a high energy show to the stage and every stage gets his full performance no matter how big or small or who the audience is. His drug of choice is music and he gets a 'high' off of almost every genre of music! The first band he was in was called Kimberly Kay and the Midnight Fire Band, he was a guitar player for that group and then became the lead singer for the groups, Southern Country Express, Whiskey River, Southern Comfort and DoubleTake which is when he started playing with Terry. He's played for many venues, from Auction houses in the beginning to many various festivals for thousands of people! Terry is the lead guitar player. He brings a rock feel to every song he plays because his musical leanings lean toward The Beatles, ZZ Top, Steve Miller and Boston to name a few. He learned to play the guitar to the Beatles (which was the greatest band ever). Growing up he was always asked to play for private parties but never played in clubs. Then he quit music for years. He started getting the music bug and started practicing and began putting a band together which is when he met Gene. He and Gene formed the band DoubleTake in the mid 1990's and when they broke up, he quit again for many years. He's recorded a Radio Commercial for John Baily Chevrolet in the past. When Gene called again and said "Do you wanna play some music?", he said "OK!" and The Southern Edge Band was created and boy LOOK OUT! Nathan is the bass guitar player. Monte is the drummer. He started playing when he was 10 years old. His tastes were in 80's metal, like Ratt, Van Halen, AC/DC, Def Leppard and Ozzy. SInce then his tastes have broadened to include a little something from just about every genre of music. He's played in school and jazz band at Cabool schools as well as various other bands such as Turbwasn (a U2 cover band), Band Timing (80's rock covers), Flyin' High (70's, 80's, alternative and blues), The Wayback Machine (classic rock, blues), Outta Sync (80's and 90's rock), filled in for Shaky Ground (country) and with Double Take with Gene and Terry. He has been influenced by great drummers such as Jon Bonham, Dave Weckel, Rob Morgansteen, Paul Geary and Neil Peart. Preston is the second lead vocalist and rhythm player and he's the baby of the band at 21 years old. He started his musical journey at 17, and never really thought of himself as a singer. But he just kept practicing! When he was 18, he was in a Christian rock band called Everlasting out of Mountain Grove Missouri. His musical influences range from Brantley Gilbert to Lynyrd Skynard.
