About Soul Of Hex
Hailing from Tijuana, Sebastien Vorhaus aka Soul Of Hex has a rich, nuanced and grainy style with an authenticity that’s closer in sound to vintage Detroit or New York pastures, despite his Mexican heritage.
Recently he seems to have hit upon a vein of creative inspiration and clearly loves every second of being in the studio making music. As a result, he is shaping a fresh new direction for the Mexican scene.
He already boast material on the likes of MCDE, Quintessentials and his own Vicario LTD. This project which has already seen huge support from Larry Heard (leading 2 remixes of his own ‘Lip Reading’), is a live show showcasing his newly formed, sophisticated of a jazz and analog house amalgama sound.
With a Boiler Room set under his a remix and support from Larry Heard, Jimpster signed him on his own label Freerange with a succesful EP entitled ‘’The Muth’’ with a remix by the jazz prodigy of Yussef Kamaal, Henry Wu. Following the release of the third Soul of Hex EP, Sleep Mistakes, CVMR, "Sleep Mistakes ft. Albert Vogt" retained a organic house aesthetic with smooth and subtle jazz-infused bass licks, loose percussive lines, soulful vocal stylings by Berlin based singer Albert Vogt. His most recent EP Snake Snares it’s a dancefloor oriented release inspired after a marathon dancing session at Panorama Bar. After being sponsored by Elektron, acquiring an Octatrack (hardware sequencing sampler) it has been something of a revelation becoming the centerpiece in his studio as well as enabling him to put together a flexible and powerful live set.
His DJ sets are a assured, kinetic combination of pulsing house, techno, garage, funk and disco. He alredy played in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Stuttgart, Berlin, Barcelona, St. Petersburg, Cologne, Leicester, New York, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Dublin. He participated in festivals like Dekmantel, Off Sonar, Bahidorá 2017, The BPM Festival 2015, 2016, Comunité, Manana Cuba and TNDMX. Boiler Room Mexico City, Standard Rooftop LA, Umbrella Factory, La Santanera, Teatro Heredia, Casa Morelos, Sub8ten, Switch Bar, Casale Delle Fate, Arena Club, Farbfernseher and Wigwam.
