In fall of 2006 Separation of Self was introduced to the Project Independent metal showcase. One year after being entered into the showcase the fans spoke out and voted for Separation of Self to be the fall 2007 featured artist. They dominated each and every round of voting. With their freshman release, "Caldera", in 2005 being a huge success, Separation of Self had perfected the process of molding and fine tuning material for their second record "reSolve" released in 2007 under EvO/Fontana. Later in 2010, they released their 3rd album, " DESIRE.CREATE:.They are currently working on material for their 4th album hoping for a spring 2018 release. The combination of heart pounding drops, intricate leads, relentless rhythms and dynamic vocals, makes this band a well-rounded group. With influences ranging from Iron Maiden and Meshuggah to Pink Floyd and Alice in Chains, their musical talents put forth a roller coaster of tension and resolve... CD Review SLUG Magazine Separation of Self Album: Resolve Evo Entertainment Street: 10.05.07 Separation of Self = Killswitch Engage + As I Lay Dying + All That Remains Separation of Self fit right in with the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, a scene that is huge not only in the U.S. but all over the world. Resolve is one of those albums that like the style or not you cannot deny that the band is extremely good at what they do. At first I was turned off by the style of the band, but now it's caught on in my head and I find myself singing along to some of the ultra-catchy choruses. So what if they don't really offer much as far as ingenuity goes with Resolve. It's a hell of a lot better stylistically than their debut Caldera, which was more seated in hardcore with lots of those moshcore breakdowns. Resolve has some truly talented musicianship in the band's creation of riffs and much better breakdowns than were displayed on their debut, and hell, do not forget the melodic guitar work. Separation of Self is a band just waiting to be discovered. I'd much rather listen to this album than what Killswitch Engage or All That Remains have put out lately. It's catchy, it's heavy, and just a well played, produced and arranged album. It's no wonder the guys have created a big following in Utah.
