About Sarah Siskind

Sarah Siskind built her music career in Nashville, TN and now lives in her home-state of North Carolina. Her songs, some Grammy-nominated, have been covered by Alison Krauss, Wynonna, Randy Travis and more. Siskind contributed 21 songs to the hit TV show Nashville, including the unofficial theme song “A Life That’s Good” that will be featured in the upcoming much talked about documentary Bluebird Cafe.

As a beloved indie artist, Huffington Post has this to say: “Siskind has been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Brandi Carlile, but in my humble opinion, she’s incomparable.”

Modern Appalachia, slated for release in early 2020, is Sarah Siskind’s most vulnerable and personal album to date, generously showcasing a reconnection to her roots in North Carolina. In pursuit of a simpler life, Siskind moved back to her home state, grounding herself and her young family. It was there that she gained a new perspective on the region that shaped her. “Modern Appalachia” was originally conceived as a way to describe a music style or sound, but it became much more over the last few years as Sarah settled in. It is a feeling; a little wild, a little old-fashioned. It’s a way of life; progressive, but rooted in long standing patterns. It’s a conversation about humanity and how we relate to each other and to ourselves.

The self-produced album was recorded at Echo Mountain recording studio in Asheville, NC with Nashville-based engineer Jason Lehning. The band features jazz drummer Jeff Sipe, guitar player Mike Seal and Daniel Kimbro on bass. Bill Frisell graces the title track “Modern Appalachia” with his masterful touch while Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) lends his unmistakable vocals to “Carolina.”

“She is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of artist in her delivery, honesty and songwriting.”
- No Depression

“Sarah Siskind is one of very few songwriters that is a true student of American music.
Her lexicon is incredible and her voice…well, she’s a teacher.” – Bon Iver
