About Saphyre Rain

The 21st century sees the human race facing a suicide epidemic and raging self harm statistics. Open any newspaper, watch any nightly news report and you're surrounded with stories of addiction, abuse, neglect, fear, and pain. In your heart, you ask all the hard questions – Is this darkness taking over? Saphyre Rain wants to remind the world that hope is alive. Saphyre Rain is husband and wife team, Austin and Amanda Harras. Spending the last few months creating their debut EP Break the Cycle with producer Nick Sullivan, the duo has crafted a cutting rock sound that is inviting and inspiring. Located in Northern Colorado, the two co-compose their material, with Austin as drummer and Amanda as vocalist/guitars. Released in October 2015, Break the Cycle (single Live) is characterized by driving metallic beats, dark guitar-riff tonality, and sincere melodic colors. “Our generation is at a huge risk. There are so many kids out there who want to make a difference in our world, and we all struggle with pain in one form or another. Now is the time to fight back. Each and every one of us is making a difference in our world; we do have the power to change it for the better”, says Saphyre Rain. In 2012, the couple self-produced a full length album, UnSaid I Love You's, recorded in a home-studio with their previous band, Suffocation in my Silence. October of 2014 saw Austin and Amanda taking a new direction, starting a project called “Saphyre Rain”. The band name was chosen based on the formation of the sapphire gemstone. A sapphire is created over time, under intense heat and pressure. Whatever 'impurities' are present at the time of formation result in the sapphire's final color. “We wanted to have a metaphoric name for the band to encompass the idea that beautiful things come from the pain that we go through; essentially, that there is hope even in the darkness”, says Amanda. With the expertise of producer Nick Sullivan, Austin and Amanda began the pre-production process for an EP at Consonance Productions in Denver, late 2014. The couple put focus on compelling song writing and branching out artistically and creatively. Amanda began experimenting with adding lead guitar parts to the song structures and composing bass lines; while Austin worked to tighten the drum parts and implement technical patterns. Andrew Whiteman of Red Tide Rising and Nick Sullivan played bass tracks on the Break the Cycle EP. The vision behind Saphyre Rain is to tell our generation of the light, through music. We want every person that we come into contact with to know: you are loved, your life is precious, and your story is a critical element to the future. Saphyre Rain is a rock band with a vision: To remind the world that hope is alive.
