Rootsman Sax

Rootsman (Ruud van Korven) is a saxophonist who comes from 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Rootsman's love and passion for reggae and dub music, as well as his skills with the saxophone, have ensured his regular collaboration with reggae/ dub producers and soundsystems during their live sets.

After the performance of the Jamaican Dean Fraser in 2008 at Reggae Sundance, he was inspired to become musically involved in the culture of reggae dub and soundsystems.

Rootsman has been involved with Pacha Mama Soundsystem from his hometown since the early start. He is well known in the dub soundsystem scene for his live musical performances during soundsystem sessions, improvising along to the tunes. Besides his live performances Rootsman is also a regular guest in the recording studio. During the years he has made many song recordings for producers like Indica Dubs (Conquering horns), Mystical Powa, Moa Anbessa and Koncrete Roots. Furthermore, Rootsman is also an active band member of Independent Intavenshan.

His musical abilities are described as a magical effect on the audience. And his music helps enhance the sound of the soundsystems themselves. In many corners of the world people have become fond of Rootsman and his musical abilities.

Rootsman has performed with Channel One, Aba Shanti, Ashanti Selah, Blackboard Jungle, King Shiloh, Dubkasm, Iration Steppas, Moa Anbessa, Kibir la Amlak, Dub Dynasty, Zion Train and Legal Shot. He has performed at reggae and dub events like Reggae Geel, Reggaebus, International Gathering, Dubcamp and Rototom Sunsplash.
