About Renee Asteria

San Francisco, CA, based artist Razteria (aka Renee Asteria) can be described as a fusion of No Doubt and Bomba Estereo. Her multicultural background (USA/Bolivia/Netherlands) has had a profound influence on her musical journey. Performing in multiple languages, her music has been described as ‘musically adventurous’ and ‘one of a kind, breaking all rules,’ uniting Reggae, passionate Latin grooves, Rock, powerful messages and some real musical genius. Razteria is known for her simple yet intricate songs, her signature ethereal harmonies and fat bass-lines. Over the past ten years, Razteria, performing under both Razteria and Renee Asteria, has planted musical seeds throughout the Americas and Europe. Razteria's fifth album Aventurera was released worldwide March 18, 2016. Singles from this album include the title track Aventurera, a collaboration with Afro-Peruvian band Sang Matiz, Once Again & Change, world-hiphop crossover tracks combining the talents of actor, rapper and educator Rahman Jamaal with Razteria's Aventurera has been charting on CMJ New World Music Top 40 as of Feburary 2016. Once Again has won grand prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest 2016. Currently 2016, Razteria is on a 3-month long international production tour bringing musicians, producers and engineers from 3 continents together on material for 2 stylistically distinct albums to be completed beginning 2017. In addition to working on her own music, she is helping produce and arrange songs by Edy Flores, an up and coming young Bolivian hip hop artist she discovered while volunteering at the NGO EnsenArte. Razteria’s fourth album, titled Maz Raz (2013), was recorded and mixed at Live Oak Studio, Berkeley CA, (Destiny's Child; Tony Toni Tone; Too Short). The album features an eclectic mixture of genres, both originals and covers, including The Pixies’ “Where is my mind”, Los Kjarkas’ “Chorando se Foi” (Lambada) and The Abyssinians’ “There is no End”. Maz Raz began to chart on the CMJ New World Chart in August 2015. Since 2013 Razteria has been a part of Empress Unification, a collective of Bay Area female artists highlighting the works and messages of female artists who perform Reggae and World music in five different languages (English, Farsi, French, Portuguese and Spanish). Empress Unification was featured on San Francisco's Undercover Presents "Exodus" by Bob Marley (2015) for which Razteria arranged the lead and harmony vocals. Razteria has opened for and performed with Grammy award winning Reggae artist Michael Rose, popular UK/JA lover’s rock Lloyd Brown, The Garifuna Collective from Belize and others. Noteworthy performances include Reggae on the River, World One Festival, World Fest Los Angeles, Northwest World Reggae Festival and the Montreal Jazz festival, to name a few. In early 2015, Razteria founded Truffula Oak Studio in El Sobrante, California, a 100% solar powered recording studio, barter-based / low-cost space for aspiring artists.
