About Relevant Discord

RELEVANT DISCORD is the musical brainchild of Nick Depew. Established as a band in 2008, the name actually goes back to a solo record written a decade prior by Depew. Depew is the only official member of the band. However, he is joined by a rotating team of musicians for live performances and studio endeavors. In December of 2009, RELEVANT DISCORD released a rough, five song demo EP, titled "The Pathways of Brokenness - Volume 01." The release paved the way for the band to professionally record two singles with studio producers/engineers Rich Veltrop (Rage Against the Machine) and Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers). Released in June of 2011, RELEVANT DISCORD's "Dual Singles EP: The Days of Deferment & The Refrain" garnered both strong fan and critic response, and gradually witnessed both of its songs being added to over 80 radio playlists around the globe. This led to a number of performance invites, including back to back appearances at a festival sponsored by Massy in Northern, California. In 2012, RELEVANT DISCORD made music news on two fronts. The first was in the spring of the year for launching a virtual, unplugged tour on the artist video streaming service StageIt. Shows were dedicated to specific cities and fan groups around the world and played in accordance with that area's time zone. Afterward, Depew was asked by the music distributor company CD Baby to write a guest article highlighting the platform's abilities. RELEVANT DISCORD made headlines again in the fall of the year with a tongue-in-cheek, mock presidential run called "Vote Discord 2012." Amidst the left versus right arguments of every election season, the band made appeals to protest voters refusing to vote for any mainstream candidate, asking them to write the band's name in on their ballots. The effort hit a number of US and Canadian newswires, including music news sites like Ultimate Guitar. In 2013, RELEVANT DISCORD released a remix EP of its two popular singles, titled "Neogenesis." The project brought a former Veltrop, Massy colleague to the table, Joe Haze, who had recently finished projects for Sublime and Chris Vrenna (formerly of Nine Inch Nails). In October of 2015, RELEVANT DISCORD re-entered the studio, this time enlisting the help of the boutique guitar pedal company Pettyjohn Electronics co-founder, Stephen Pettyjohn. The result was three new singles that are being released over the course of three months, from January of 2016 through March of 2016. These songs are "A Weak Defense," "The End of Silence," and "The Rift Within." Harmoniously dissonant rock in the vein of Breaking Benjamin, Nine Inch Nails, Chevelle, Evanescence, & Apocalyptica.
