A sus 13 años de edad, Royce descubrió un nuevo hobbie que le mantenia todo el tiempo entusiasmado, pues veia que con ese hobbie estaba mas cerca de su meta." Pero tiempo mas tarde, al encontrarse con Andres Hidalgo productor y presidente de 2 strong Entertainment, quien seria luego su manager, este le propuso entonar algunas canciones de bachata para probar la calidad de su voz sin saber que este genero pasaria a ser su destino artistico. Prince Royce investigo que el nombre " Royce " significa " hijo del rey " o alguien de buen linaje o de familia real, por lo que penso entonces que Prince Royce combinaba y sonaba pegajoso. Junto a el entraron al estudio un grupo de expertos en la industria que dotaron de profesionalidad el trabajo final. El tema que primero se escucho del CD fue "Corazon sin cara " , una historia romántica que habla de que el corazon no se fija en la belleza sino en los sentimientos. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prince Royce conocido como " El idolo de la bachata " " El principe de la bachata " es parte del catálogo de artistas del sello Top Stop Music/ Atlantic Records, presidido por el productor Sergio George, quien ha trabajo con grandes estrellas en la música como Aventura, Xtreme, Marc Anthony, Jennifer López, Celia Cruz, India y Christina Aguilera, entre otros. Igualmente es parte de la compañía de su manejo 2 Strong Entertainment presidido por Andres Hidalgo (su manager), la misma que acogió en sus inicios y luego lanzó las carreras de populares artistas que hoy brillan nacionalmente como Aventura y Xtreme. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Con mi música pretendo tocar muchos corazones” Jóvenes solistas que le apuesten a la bachata en el plano internacional no hay muchos. Y menos que lo hagan con el ímpetu y la dedicación de los grandes del género que iniciaron a cantarlo cuando era apenas un ritmo relegado a las zonas rurales. “Pero hace falta”, dice Prince Royce, un nuevo talento que ya se ha decidido a hacer que su nombre sea símbolo de calidad interpretativa y orgullo latino. Él, cantando en inglés y español, se proyecta como una de las futuras estrellas de la bachata. Geoffrey Royce Rojas es un talentoso chico nacido en el Bronx, Nueva York, lugar de donde ha sacado sus principales influencias para crear un estilo único que le diferencia de los demás y le lleve al éxito. La inclinación por este estilo de música no es casualidad. Sus padres son ambos de la tierra donde se originó la bachata, República Dominicana, y desde siempre infundieron en éste el sentido de identidad cultural que les embargaba. “Me siento ciento por ciento dominicano”, revela sonriente el joven intérprete, aunque delata su ascendencia al hablar con un marcado acento caribeño. Pese a ser un principiante en el mercado de la música, no así lo es en los escenarios. Desde temprana edad, apasionado por las coreografías y canciones que sonaban en sus años de infancia, no perdió tiempo en experimentar con el arte. “Necesitaba saber qué se sentía interpretar un personaje y estar frente a mucha gente”, comenta haciendo alusión a sus primeras presentaciones en público que realizó dentro de las shows de talento de su escuela primaria. En adición a su espontaneidad y las ganas de convertirse en artista, Royce tenía a su favor dos factores que le sirvieron de mucha ayuda. El primero fue haber contar con una familia que le brindara el respaldo necesario. “Mi mamá también soñó con ser cantante de joven, por lo que fue siempre la que más me apoyaba cuando decía que quería llegar a destacarme en este medio. Pero en general, todos en mi familia han sido mi equipo de batalla en este lucha”, reflexiona. Lo segundo fue haberse criado en una gran ciudad como Nueva York. “Al haber visto que a mi alrededor todo se trataba de tendencias y estilos, empecé a definir mi línea musical, nutriéndome de todas las experiencias que se tienen en una ciudad como ésta, en donde sólo quien puede innovar llega a impactar a los demás”. Pero no fue una extrañeza, pues “tarde o temprano sabía que iba a interpretar música dominicana profesionalmente, solo que no pensé en ella como primera opción, pero estoy fascinado con que haya ocurrido de esta manera”. Sin embargo, asegura que lo que lo distinguirá “no será puramente bachata”, más bien será una experiencia mucho más urbana dentro del mencionado género tropical. “Lo que intento es llevar la bachata a otro nivel, no me quedo en lo tradicional que ya hemos escuchado”, enfatiza. De chispeante personalidad, típica de un joven con sangre latina en sus venas y con el deseo de dar el todo por el todo para lograr sus metas, Royce cree firmemente en su trabajo y dice que no defraudará al público ofreciéndole más de lo mismo. En su primera producción, que denominará “Prince Royce”, la mayoría de temas son bachatas de su autoría que se balancean con otros ritmos contemporáneos como el pop y el Rithym & Blues. “Quiero que la gente me vea como un artista verdadero que puede cantar y hacer lo que sea para entretener. Por eso digo que estoy abierto a los demás géneros”, manifiesta, y añade que en el repertorio de este disco se encuentran algunos cortes suaves y otros más movidos. ¿Y de dónde viene este título? “Investigué que mi nombre ‘Royce’ significa ‘El hijo del rey’, o alguien de buen linaje o de familia real, por lo que pensé entonces que Prince Royce combinaba y sonaba pegajoso”. Junto a él entraron al estudio un grupo de expertos en la industria que dotaron de profesionalidad el trabajo final. “La experiencia fue súper satisfactoria y sentí mucha emoción al ver cómo todo se componía a la perfección con cada arreglo”, expresa con evidente felicidad el intérprete. And there are fewer still who embody the drive and determination of the great old bachata performers, when the genre was consigned to the smaller rural areas of the Dominican Republic. But “it is much overdue” as Prince Royce explains, we need a new talent whose name symbolizes both performing excellence and Latin pride. Singing in both English and Spanish, it is easy to see this gifted young man quickly becoming one of the genre’s hottest new stars. Geoffrey Royce Rojas was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and this city has remained a key influence in developing his unique musical style which not only sets him apart from the rest, but has also added to the growth of his career. His inclination towards bachata is not just a coincidence. His parents who are both from the land of the bachata, the Dominican Republic, always instilled in him a strong sense of cultural identity and pride. “I feel one hundred percent Dominican,” he reveals with a smile, although his strong Caribbean accent has already given him away. Though he may be a novice to the music industry, he is no stranger to performing. Captivated by the popular music and dance moves of his childhood, he auditioned and performed in numerous school talent shows from very early on. “I needed to know what it felt like to be any given character in front of a lot of people,” he explains, alluding to his first stage performances in elementary school shows. In addition to his spontaneity and determination to be an artist, Royce had two important factors in his favor. The first was the unconditional support of his family. “My mother also dreamed of becoming an artist in her youth, so she was always my biggest supporter when I’d say that I wanted to be an artist. But generally, my entire family has always stood behind me,” he reflects. The second factor in his favor was being raised in New York City. “I noticed that everything around me was defined by the latest trends and styles, so I started defining my own brand of music, nourished by all the experiences that a city like New York can offer, a place where only those that innovate can truly have an impact and make a difference. At 13 he discovered a new “hobby” that occupied all of his time and fueled his inspiration, bringing him closer to his ultimate goal. “I began writing poetry and eventually songs, inspired by the personal experiences and issues that affected my generation,” he recalls. At the age of 15, he begins to narrow in on what he wants to do as a performer and begins “experimenting” with music, working towards becoming a great new artist. Some time later, Prince Royce would unknowingly discover his artistic destiny, after meeting his future manager Andrés Hidalgo, who suggested that he sing a few bachata songs to judge the quality of his voice. “It wasn’t a total surprise because I knew that sooner or later I would be performing traditional Dominican music professionally, it just had not occurred to me as my first choice, but I am thrilled that it happened this way.” Still, he promises that what will set him apart will “not be purely bachata,” but rather more of an urban experience within the tropical genre. “I want to take the bachata to the next level, to break away from the traditional sound that is familiar to everyone”, he emphasizes. With a fun-loving, energetic personality typical of a Latin youth, topped with ambition and a fervent determination to achieve his objectives, Royce firmly believes in his music and says that he will not let his fans down by offering more of the same thing. His debut album, titled “Prince Royce”, features mostly bachatas fused with other contemporary rhythms like pop and rhythm and blues, all written by Royce himself. “I want people to see me as a complete artist that can sing and do whatever it takes to entertain. That is why I say that I am open to all musical genres”, he reveals while adding that this album also includes some softer melodious tunes as well as up tempo ones. So how did you come up with the title? “I discovered that my name ‘Royce’ means ‘The King’s son’, or someone of royal birth, so naturally I felt that Prince Royce would be in tone with that and be catchy at the same time”. He was joined in the recording studio by a select team of industry experts that sealed the production with the outmost care and professionalism. “This was an incredible experience for me and I felt very excited to see the entire project come together to perfection with each recording”, says Royce with a look of evident satisfaction. The album’s first single is “Corazón sin Cara”, a romantic ballad “that relates how true love isn’t about physical beauty; it’s about feelings that come straight from the heart”. He is part of the music catalogue for the Top Stop Music Label, headed by distinguished music producer Sergio George, who has worked with renowned music superstars like Marc Anthony, Jennifer López, Celia Cruz, India and Christina Aguilera, to name a few. “I feel very honored to be able to have the support of this important company in my career, the feeling of reliability and trust that comes from knowing you have the best team on your side when you are fighting for your dreams is priceless,” he confesses. “I want to continue doing the things that move me, and to become what I want to be: an artist that is able to touch people’s hearts through my lyrics, so that before I leave this world I am able to make a positive difference in other’s lives”.
