About Plastic Planets

Plastic Planets was born in 2009 as a result of the break up of Orlando-based band Social Ghost. Singer/bassist Eric Van Lugo and drummer Jeffrey Alan Wright immediately began work on this new project, and creativity between the two flourished until the summer of 2010 when Jeff took an extensive touring gig with Blue Man Group. During this time, Eric continued to write and demo a great deal of songs on his own. Jump to 2012, Jeff's time on the tour was coming to an end, and Eric had begun talks with Roy Mitchell-Cárdenas of MuteMath who was interested in coming on board as a producer. Jeff flew back to Orlando for the sessions, ultimately deciding to return home and get back to work. With Roy now enlisted as a producer and writing partner, the next year was spent putting the final touches on what was then planned to be a five-song EP, developing an innovative DIY light show, and auditioning guitar players for live performances. At the end of that year, after spending months at a time jamming with different guitar players, the band was still at a loss for the right member. Frustrated, they called Roy and asked if he would be available to play a few shows, to which he responded by offering to officially join the band. The three decided on the name Plastic Planets, and to release a full-length album instead of the EP. The self-titled debut album was released in December of 2013 and the band made it's live debut in January of 2014 to a packed house at The Haven Lounge in Orlando. Roy's joining the band was a monumental step in finishing the album and getting the band rolling, but you cannot have the sweet without the sour... With MuteMath continuing to move ahead at full speed, it had quickly proven difficult for Plastic Planets to meet it's full potential, and thus Roy had to take a step back. In the studio, and throughout the writing process, he continues his involvement as a songwriter and collaborator, but can only play live shows when scheduling allows. Whether the guitar role will ever be permanently filled, or if the band will simply carry on enlisting the help of friends and special guests for live performances, is yet to be seen. Nonetheless, Plastic Planets continues to deliver it's unique brand of electronic rock and roll, as well as a stunning live show, all over the country. Music from before the future.
