Pezhham Akhavass

Pezhham Akhavass is a percussionist/musician and modern day master of the Tombak. Pezhham was born in 1980 and graduated with bachelor's degree in music from Sureh University of Tehran. With the support of his renowned artist father Mostafa, Pezhham began studying the Tombak at the age of five with the guidance of Naser Farhanghfar. From 1989-1991, he continued studying Tombak with Saeid Roudbary. While in college, Pezhham also studied the Setar with Hamid Sokoti and Masoud Shaari. Pezhham also plays the Oud and Tanbour. In addition to the Tombak, Pezhham has studied other percussion instruments: daf, Indian tabla, kanjira and gatam. His unique approach to rhythm and style have resulted in him being termed one of the most distinguished tombak players of his generation. From 2001-2007 Pezhham began working professionally with the renowned vocalist, Shahram Nazeri where he toured and performed in concerts extensively through Iran and Europe in many notable music festivals including: Festival del Popolo in Italy, Théâtre de la Ville and Théâtre du Soleil in Paris, Fes Festival in Morocco, Sodran Theatre in Sweden, and also performed in Austria, Australia, and Finland. In 2009, Pezhham performed in Konya Turkey as part of the Mystic Music Festival. In 2010, Pezhham was the featured percussionist of the Masters of Persian Music Tour where he performed all throughout the United States including; Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine, Skirball Center in New York City, Sanders Theatre in Boston, Hanna Theatre in Cleveland; Symphony Center in Chicago, Ferst Center for the Arts in Atlanta, Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and the Symphony Center in Chicago. Pezhham has also performed with YoYo Ma as part of his Festival of the Silk Road at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles California. Pezhham became acquainted with some of the masters in Persian music and performed with them both locally and on tour in Iran and Europe. Include Shahram Nazeri, Hossein Alizadeh, Aliakbar Moradi, Saeid Farajpouri, Majid Derakhshani, and Masoud Shoari. Today, he is living in San Francisco California where he teaches private lessons in tombak, daf and setar. Pezhham is working on different productions and projects, gives lectures and demonstrations in Persian music and performances. Discography: Nasim va Ghandomzar (Breeze and Wheat field)- On Avaye Khorshid Label, 2005 with Aliakbar Moradi on Tanbur Raha (Liberated)- with Payam Jahanmani on Tar On Mahur label, 2005 Kamancheh Navazi (Kamanche playing based in Kurdish melodies)- with Saied Farajpouri on Kamancheh, on Mahur label, 2005 Raze sahel (Mystery of the shore)- On Avaye Sepehr label, 2006 with Majid Nazempour on Oud Dar Sayeye Baad (In the shade of the wind)- on Avaye Barbad label, 2006 with Masoud Shoaari on Setar Jostojoo Forever Seeking by Mamak Khadem Record Label: Mamak Khadem, 2008 Passion of the Rumi - by Shahram Nazeri, 2008, on Kereshme Label Pezhham Akhavass: Tombak (solo), 2008 in USA Pezhham Akhavass: Persian Percussion (solo), 2008 in USA Song of Sparrows (Avaz-e-Gonjeshkha), 2008, with Hossein Alizadeh پژهام اخواص متولد ۱۳۵۹ شیراز . تحصیلات : کارشناس موسیقی از دانشگاه سوره تهران. پژوهشگر، نوازندهٔ تمبک، دف، تبلای هندی، سه تار و عود وی در خانوادهای هنرمند دیده به جهان گشود.پدر وی دکتر مصطفی اخواص(دکترای هنر)پژوهشگر،استاد دانشگاه، مذهب و مینیاتوریست و هنرمند برجسته، نقش مهمی در زندگی پژهام ایفا نموده. موسیقی ارف(کودکان)را از سن ۵ سالگی نزد ناصر نظر آغاز و از همان سنین به تشویق پدر ساز تمبک را با راهنمائیهای استاد ناصر فرهنگ فر ادامه داد. بین سالهای ۱۳۶۹ تا ۱۳۷۱ نیز از حضور سعید رودباری بهره جست.در ساله ۱۳۷۹ وارد دانشگاه موسیقی سوره تهران شد و مشغول تحصیل در رشتهٔ آهنگ سازی شد ،در همان سال به عضویت گروه شهرام ناظری در آمد و فعالیتهای هنری خود را آغاز نمود و کنسرتهایی متعددی در سراسر دنیا برگزار نمود که از آن جمله فستیوال فز در مراکش ،تئاتر دولاویل در پاریس، تور اروپا ، استرالیا و آمریکا. در پروندهٔ هنری وی نام بزرگان موسیقی ایران و جهان نقش بسته که از آن جمله همکاری با حسین علیزاده ، شهرام ناظری،مجید درخشانی، سعید فرجپوری ، علی اکبر مرادی، مسعود شعاری، هانس هارتمن ، و یو یو ما. وی اکنون ساکن شمال کالیفرنیا میباشد و مشغول تحصیل ، تحقیق،اجرای کنسرت و آموزش موسیقی و داشته های علمی خویش میباشد. از وی آثار بسیاری منتشر شده.نسیم و گندمزار به همراه تنبور علی اکبر مرادی، مولویه به خوانندگی شهرام ناظری، آواز گنجشکها اثر حسین علیزاده، کمانچه نوازی به همراه سعید فرجپوری،.... و همچنین دو اثر تکنوازی به نامهای سولوی تمبک و سازهای کوبه ای (پرکاشن) که در سال ۲۰۰۸ ضبط و در اختیار علاقمندان قرار گرفت.
