About Paranormal Attack
Paranormal Attack is the groundbreaking electronic music project created by Rui Oliveira, better
known as DJ Xangaii - one of the most innovative and influential Portuguese artists in the global
electronic music scene.
Xangaii's passion for music started early. He began studying keyboards at the age of 8. By 12 or 13,
he asked his grandmother for an acoustic guitar as a Christmas gift and taught himself how to play,
along with some school friends. At 15, he joined a cover band and spent the next seven years
performing across Portugal, building a strong foundation as a live musician.
At 19, while still in the band, he discovered psytrance and started producing his own tracks. By
2003, Paranormal Attack had gained traction, and Xangaii left the band to travel the world as a solo
electronic artist.
A major turning point came when one of his idols, Skazi, heard his early tracks and invited him to
join the legendary label Shaffel Records, which later became Chemical Crew. This placed Xangaii
among the top psytrance names at the time and kickstarted his international career. It also began a
24-year friendship and creative partnership with Skazi.
In 2006, he released his debut album *Phenomenon* - a genre-defying blend of psytrance, rock,
electro, and classical influences. Tracks like "Be With You" (now with over 15 million plays) and
"The Pill" became instant anthems and solidified Paranormal Attack's legacy.
In 2007, he collaborated with iconic Brazilian rock band Charlie Brown Jr. on the track "Vão Fazer
de Novo", performing live with them at multiple shows. That same year, he played at the Rolling
Stone Brazil Anniversary Party and was featured in the magazine - a key milestone in his career.
In 2015, Xangaii launched his own independent label, Fxxk Tomorrow, ensuring total creative
freedom. In 2018, he teamed up with Skazi once again for a remix of Infected Mushroom's iconic
"Saeed", which now has nearly 5 million Spotify plays. In 2021, he released an official remix for
French metalcore band Novelists - "Lost Cause" - which has surpassed 1.5 million plays.
In 2022, Xangaii moved from São Paulo to Florianópolis, seeking peace and better mental health
after a difficult period. The island's energy sparked a new creative chapter. There, he became close
with DJ Vegas, now a neighbor and frequent collaborator. One of their exciting new projects is a
remix of Paranormal Attack's classic "Walking in the Sun" - still unreleased, but already known by
fans through both of their sets.
2022 also marked 20 years of Paranormal Attack, celebrated with a historic performance at Rock In
Rio Brazil. In 2025, Xangaii played an unforgettable set at the Ame Laroc Festival and delivered a
legendary performance on the morning of January 1st at Universo Paralello Festival - now viral on
YouTube with over 520,000 views.
With more than 30 million Spotify streams, a sound in constant evolution, and a presence on some
of the world's biggest stages, Paranormal Attack remains a powerful and visionary force in global
electronic music.
