About Paperplane Pursuit

Paperplane Pursuit is a three-piece pop band, based in Malaysia. The band makes radio friendly music, with catchy hooks and infectious sing-along melodies.

In September 2015, Paperplane Pursuit broke into the US Billboard Mainstream Top 40 Indicator Chart, with their single Feel Good. The song remained on the chart for seven weeks.

The last two years have seen Paperplane Pursuit on a steady rise to the top of the Malaysian English music scene, with 3 big hit singles under belt, enjoying heavy rotation on Malaysian radio. They fancy themselves the ultimate underdogs, having managed all this despite being entirely self-funded, self-managed, self-produced, and with no label backing.

As a band, Paperplane Pursuit is known to have a steadfast DIY approach to the production of their music and videos. Comprised of John O on vocals, Isaac Ravi on guitars, Dru Yap on drums, and The Chief on bass, the band writes, produces and records all their music in their own production studio. All the band’s music videos have been self-produced as well.

2015:
In July 2015, Paperplane Pursuit partnered with Asia International Records (A.I.R.) to release the band’s single ‘Feel Good’ in the United States, as part of a radio campaign to break the US Billboard charts and introduce the band to an international audience. The single successfully broke the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream Indicator Chart in September 2015. It enjoyed daily spins on American radio.

The band is currently working on a full length album, looking to be released in 2016. The album’s first single, titled ‘Who’s Gonna Stop Me?!’, enjoyed daily frequent spins on Malaysian radio. The band has set its sights on bringing their music to the world stage, while continuing to strengthen their reputation as Malaysia’s go-to hit-makers.

2014:
The single, ‘Feel Good’, was first released in Malaysia in July 2014 and continued to be played daily on Malaysian radio well into February 2015, making the band one of the most played acts on Malaysian radio. At it’s peak, the single was inescapable on Malaysian radio, playing on each major station approximately once every two hours, daily. The single eventually accumulated higher total spins than tracks by charting international artists such as Maroon 5, Katy Perry and One Republic, a feat rarely ever achieved by a Malaysian English language artist.

The band’s breakthrough single ‘Beat Of Your Love’, featuring fellow Malaysian artiste Darren Ashley, was released in January 2014. The track also enjoyed peak rotation frequencies on Malaysian radio for more than six months. Both singles were released from the band’s second EP, ‘Higher’.

2009 - 2013:
Though formed in 2009, Paperplane Pursuit first gained recognition in 2010 with their single 'Goodbye', released off their debut EP, ‘malaysia 2.0’. The track enjoyed chart success in Malaysia and the accompanying music video made waves on MTV Asia, airing daily at the end of 2010. In support of 'malaysia 2.0, Paperplane Pursuit spent 2011 and 2012 performing live, and making radio and TV appearances.

In November 2012, they released 'Everybody Wants Somebody', the first single off their second EP, ‘Higher’ . The single gained regular airplay on local radio stations. The band followed up in February 2013 with the release of their next single 'Higher (Ah Song)', which continued to receive regular spins on Malaysian radio.

September 2013 saw the release of the band's next single 'What If'. The song was played frequently on Malaysian radio, proving to be the launch pad for the band’s big break in the Malaysian music scene in the year 2014.
