About Palmstruck

"twisty, mathy progressive pop studded with samples... underpinned by a funky groove." A song conceived just minutes before a Manchester band’s lead singer underwent a heart-transplant, is one of the highlights of palmstruck's four-track EP released in May 2012. At the start of 2010, palmstruck’s Andrew Rigg became seriously ill and needed a heart transplant. Five minutes before being sedated for his operation, he memorably emailed the bones of a new song to the rest of his band. The 2012 release of the Stupid Future EP was the culmination of Rigg’s determination to see the project through. The three original members of the Manchester alternative five-piece: Andrew Rigg (vocals & programming/keys), Curig Owen (piano & keyboard) and Alex Drury (drums & percussion) have been making music together for over 10 years. Previous incarnations of the band have received increasing critical praise, national exposure and sought after support slots for the likes of Errors, 65daysofstatic and Two Gallants. The addition of Jimi Parker-Backhouse (bass) and Mark Wegner (guitar) in 2009 enabled palmstruck to fashion their most recent and impressive sound. ‘Stupid Future’ is notable for its drive and sense of purpose, reflecting a band that has overcome extreme adversity. Rigg successfully received a new heart in April 2010, triggering the band’s resurgence. Stupid Future was recorded in 2011 at Salford’s prestigious Blueprint Studios under the direction of Gary Vaughan-Hadfield. The EP and its release was financed, publicised and self-managed by palmstruck. The band have completed their next single 'Battery' which was released on the 2nd April 2013. Palmstruck is a four piece alternative band from Manchester. Listen to our debut album at http://www.palmstruckmusic.com.
