About Ode to the Quiet

Ode to the Quiet is a Dutch band, partly inspired by the music of composers like Claude Debussy and bands like Patrick Watson, Efterklang and Radiohead. The band creates 'stargaze': a mix of classical piano, soundscapes, trip-hop, drones as well as Western-like guitarplaying and postpunk basslines, accompanied by the voice of Marianne that reaches from threatening depths up to the highest stars. All of this combined in a spellbinding and cinematic way. 'Listening to Ode to the Quiet is like watching an intriguing movie' (music blog Kicking the Habit). With their unusual sound and dynamic set, Ode to the Quiet takes the audience on a trip and don't intend on bringing them back home again. In 2014, Ode to the Quiet released their self-titled debut album in the Netherlands, that received only outstanding reviews. Since the release OXQ has performed at many festivals and stages across the Netherlands (Eurosonic, Incubate, Noorderzon) and was selected for the 'Popronde' in 2014, which is the largest traveling festival of the country and takes place from September up to November. The cinimatic qualities of the music are highlighted more and more: During their Dutch release tour, the band was asked by the Groninger Museum to write a soundtrack dedicated to one of the works of art in their collection. They picked a post-modern piece by Alessandro Mendini, the main architect of the museum. The new track called 'Tempest' was released in April and is now part of the audiotour in the museum. This year Ode to the Quiet was invited to perform at Toronto's showcase festival NXNE and toured through Canada this June. The first step beyond the borders is taken and plans for an international release of the album in 2015/2016 are being made. The press about Ode to the Quiet: 'Nothing less than a glorious show with only one conclusion: a live show by this band lives up to all expectations you'll have after hearing the inventive album' Kicking the Habit 'An unusual and intriguing sound. A winning combination of genres and styles' Exclaim! 'One of the most exciting bands we've seen lately. Album and live shows are warmly recommended' 3voor12 'What a revelation!
