About No Strings Attached

In the Spring of 1994, four Emory students decided to perform at "Open Mic Nite" at what is now Dooley's Depot. At that time, there were no a cappella groups at Emory, and most of the groups that performed at Open Mic Nite were bands. With only their voices to boast, the four students thought it would be appropriate to name their group "No Strings Attached." Their first songs were simple, but they were an instant success. The next fall, No Strings Attached (NSA) announced auditions, and over 40 students came. The group chose talented students who led NSA for the next four years, and though the founding members graduated, their mission, "To instill school spirit at Emory" is kept alive to this day. At the end of each semester, NSA puts on a concert. Additionally, the group performs at Emory events for both alumni and students, and has been on five concert tours. Notable Emory performances include singing (with monks!) at the professorial installation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama; they've also performed at university ceremonies alongside speakers including Paul Farmer and Bernie Marcus. Outside of the campus, NSA has performed at Atlanta Braves, Hawks, and Falcons games, at the legendary Fox Theatre, for President Bill Clinton, Kevin Nealon, Jerry Springer, Maya Angelou, Hank Aaron, Ted Turner, Governor Sonny Purdue and others. NSA has released nine albums, including a compilation album celebrating the group's 15th anniversary, and has appeared on BOCA III and BOCA 2K, compilations featuring the best of collegiate a cappella.
