Nicky Haldenby

Nicky Haldenby is a 21 year-old singer-songwriter from Scarborough, England. A prolific writer and recorder, Nicky has written and produced 3 solo albums so far in his 4 year career. Having written songs since he taught himself to play piano at age 13, Nicky has a knack for writing personal piano-led singer-songwriter songs with memorable lyrics and undeniably catchy hooks. His diverse influences range from legendary songwriters, such as Bruce Springsteen and Dolly Parton, through to contemporaries- Mika, Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff- to name but a few. Nicky says: “I don’t limit what I listen to. If I like a song, I’ll listen to it; regardless of where it originated from.” Nicky released his first album, Beautiful Moment, in 2011, which he calls ‘an experiment’ rather than a fully fledged album, the progression as an artist is clearly heard in his 2013 album This Is Everything. The melodies grew stronger, the lyrics became deeper and the production got bigger. And this continued to evolve with his latest release, California Skies. Although still rooted in piano-led singer-songwriter music, California Skies is a collaborative effort, comprising of musicians from around the world. Nicky’s songs are packed full of lyrics about longing and desire, but fuelled by optimism and hope and underpinned by his “angelic and soulful” vocals. Nicky’s online presence is still very much growing, with him being at the helm of all promotional efforts, and creative ideas. Whether in a recorded song or in a live environment, his strength is his ability to engage with an audience, and to hold their attention with his heartfelt lyrics and irrepressible melodies.
