My Brother Is Pale

My Brother is Pale first took shape in 2007 when singer-guitarist Matthijs van Issum decided to start a solo project on the side of his post-punk band, TSAT. „Something totally different“ were the key words on this new venture. Some early songs were recorded that year at a small home studio in the Netherlands, Matthijs‘ home country, but the tracks were never released. In 2009 Matthijs split with TSAT and moved to Iceland, where he was finally able to focus completely on the solo project. He wrote an entirely new slate of songs and later that year enlisted Ástvaldur on bass and Gunni on drums to fill out a band for live shows. The music had seen daylight. In 2011 the band went through further changes, with Emil replacing Gunni on drums and Hannes Heiðar providing an additional guitar. MBiP was ready for a fresh start, and that meant new music. They played their first gigs with the new line-up during Airwaves 2011 and released their first promo-EP, called DP #1, in June 2012. In the fall of 2012 the keyboardist Atli Valur Jóhannesson joined the band. However the band‘s final line-up wasn't completed until Airwaves 2013 when guitarist Valbjörn Snær Lillendahl replaced Hannes and helped to create the fuller, more unique sound the band is getting noticed for.
