About Moondial

Moondial is an electronic / art rock, new wave band formed in 2017 and based in Dallas. The band consists of two members; John Chapman (Vocals, Guitar, Key and Programming) and Tony LoBianco (Vocals, Bass, Guitar).

Prior to Moondial, John and Tony performed together in Fort Worth based rock band The Cinema Echo, and released two albums Glow and Last Light with them. After The Cinema Echo dissolved in 2015, both went separate ways.

In the time following the breakup of the Cinema Echo, John began to work on a set of songs that he had begun for The Cinema Echo’s would be third record. After failing to put together a new band, John brought Tony in to help him complete Slack Tide, which is Moondial’s debut album.

Slack Tide was released in November of 2017. Moondial began playing shows in support of Slack Tide in early 2018. Embracing a DIY attitude, the band also went to Austin and shot their own video for Gullywasher, a single for Slack Tide.

Also in 2018 Moondial released In The Heart of The Forest, a digital EP that is provided free for joining the mailing list. The EP features songs recorded on both sides of the sessions for Slack Tide.

In 2019 Moondial began working on their second record, which would be called The Last Cartographer. The sessions would run for much of the early part of the year and into the fall of 2019. The band took a break from these recordings to go record the single The Orchard with Austin Bello and Caleb Turman from the band Forever The Sickest Kids.

In Spring of 2020 Moondial released The Final Cartographer online during the Covid-19 pandemic. Future plans are to support the record with live performances and physical versions of the album once possible.
