About Monks of Mellonwah

Monks of Mellonwah (MOM) are an alternative rock quartet based in Sydney, Australia. Forming in late 2009, school friends Vikram Kaushik, Joseph de la Hoyde, Joshua Baissari and John de la Hoyde are quickly establishing themselves on the international music scene as the new kids on the block. Monks of Mellonwah represent a creative collision of musical personalities, seamlessly creating a timeless and inimitiable fusion of alternative, indie and film inspired rock, drawing from a diverse range of core musical influences which include Pink Floyd, Muse, Led Zeppelin and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Fast gaining global recognition, Monks of Mellonwah have toured in Australia and the United States of America, have received multiple syncs to popular TV shows as well as winning awards for ‘International Rock Band Of The Year’ (LA Music Awards 2012) and ‘Best Indie Rock Band’ (AIM Awards 2012). After releasing a trio of EPs in Stars are Out (2010), Neurogenesis (2012) and Sky & the Dark Night (2013), Monks of Mellonwah teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Keith Olson (Fleetwood Mac, Ozzy Osbourne) alongside acclaimed engineer Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons) for their long-awaited debut album ‘Turn the People’. Since its release, Turn The People has been critically acclaimed, leading to worldwide radio play, as well as a considerable number of press reviews and features in both print and online media, including The Huffington Post, Music Connection Magazine, Pop Matters, Absolute Punk Technorati and I Am Entertainment Magazine. Lead single 'Ghost Stories' has received ongoing support from commercial mainstream rock stations in the USA, and the official video to Ghost Stories rotational play on many video channels including MTVu. The album has also enjoyed growing support through US college and tastemaker radio such as Sat Bisla's radio show 'Passport Approved'. Monks of Mellonwah are currently on a three-month tour of the USA in support of 'Turn The People' and in response to the considerable radio and press the Monks have received in the US. In addition to an eight-show ‘Passport Approved’ tour of the West Coast, Monks of Mellonwah are set to share the stage with the likes of Scott Stapp (the Voice of Creed), Sevendust, and Saving Abel across the months of June, July and August 2014. Monks of Mellonwah have enjoyed radio play in the USA, Australia, UK, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Romania, Russia, Peru, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Africa and worldwide on stations such as iHeart Radio, MySocial Radio, Amazing Radio and HKGFM. Supporters of MOM have included, 4ZZZ, RTHK, EuroTrashRadio, Flux FM, 2XM, Indie 1031, Independent FM, Gashouse Radio, RockXS, KRML, Radio Doble Nueve and more. “The Monks of Mellonwah clearly have loads of talent and sonic ambition, making Turn the People one of the top releases in the first quarter of 2014.” - Greg M.
