Mockingbird Loyals mix traditional bluegrass instruments with elements of folk, country, jazz and punctuated blues rhythms to create strong, lyrically driven songs. This quartet writes pieces that are deeply personal, passionate and dark; often evoking strong emotions of loss, frustration and anger without a shred of malaise. Liz Gilbert’s vocals add a smoky, raw element to honest songs that ring out over the classical anchor in Mary Beth Wildhalm’s cello. Dale Beach and Matt Linville alternate between leads on banjo and guitar with an intuitive grace; singing with raw emotion, unique rhythm and a robust energy that carries the fragile lyrics in an unexpected yet profoundly fitting manner. As subtle and personal as it is dark and moving, Mockingbird Loyals music is unlike any folk arrangement you’ve ever heard. Mockingbird Loyals formed as a duet in 2010 between Liz Gilbert on vocals and Dale Beach on guitar and vocals. In 2011, Matt Linville joined the group on banjo, guitar and vocals, and Mary Beth Wildhalm joined the trio on cello in April 2012.
