Mister Ott

Matt Ottignon is a gun sax player/multi-instrumentalist with indisputable musical genes (dating back to his world-touring, harp-playing grandmother). Matt has travelled and worked all over the world himself and is now creating sounds that spring from everywhere he’s been and everything he’s seen. In particular, Matt has a keen interest and involvement with the very unique sounds of Ethiopian music. As a result, his latest project, Mister Ott, generates a groove that fuses Matt’s passions for music and journey, forming a resonance that in some ways harks back to the 60s, yet fits perfectly in the 21st Century. Matt doesn’t believe in the generic labels ‘World Music’ and ‘Jazz’… quite simply, he sees Mister Ott as creating ‘new music’ that draws from virtually every culture, tradition and society on the planet - music that washes away the dust of everyday life and gives the soul room to breathe. Once experienced, it becomes part of who you are. As someone once wrote… it’s what feelings sound like. Mister Ott is an Ethio, Jazz, Funk and World music outfit from Sydney known for its danceability and high quality of musicianship.
