About Matt Wixson

Matt Wixson is a huge ska fan (he used to be huger but has lost a little weight) with too much time on his hands. His solo sounds range somewhere between the manic play-everything style of Bomb The Music Industry! and the stripped-down acoustic ska of Chris Murray. He takes a no-bullshit approach to songwriting and wouldn't sing words unless he felt they were worthwhile. His songs can be political or personal, funny or depressing. He's got multiple weeks of solo tours under his belt, as well as four cumulative months of national touring as a member of the Flaming Tsunamis, on which he did double duty (playing two sets a night) for many shows. He's recorded at the legendary Version City studios with King Django, which he thinks is pretty damn neat. Esentially he's made a lot of connections and been very fortunate in the ska scene, which is about all a huge ska fan can ever hope for in life. Over the years he's had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Pilfers, Dr. Ring-Ding, King Django, Bomb Town, Mustard Plug, Deal's Gone Bad, Hub City Stompers, the Scofflaws, Gangster Fun, the Parka Kings, Bomb The Music Industry!, the Fad, the Flatliners and the Rudie Crew, just to name a handful. He performed at the 2006 Warped Tour in Detroit at Dr. Madd Vibe's Medicine Cabinet as a guest of Angelo Moore of Fishbone, and he's been known to rock it guerilla style outside of shows, including a memorable spot outside the gates of Knoxville's Ska Weekend in 2006. For some reason, Matt's a mover in the ska scene, and you'll probably hear more about him than you care to over the coming years.
