About Manic Pixi

Manic Pixi is the Brooklyn-based brainchild of Kat Hamilton, Emmett Ceglia, Marshall Biever and Drew Bastian. Take Paramore, inject them with sweeter pop-punk melodies a la Letters to Cleo, rub them down with No Doubt, drop them in a bowl full of Hole, pan fry on high in Blink 182, season with Four Year Strong and you wind up with alternative pop-punk four-piece, Manic Pixi.

On paper, Manic Pixi sound like they’d be an absolute hodgepodge: Kat Hamilton, a pop songwriter who grew up belting to Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani; Emmett Ceglia, a hardcore drummer who can fall asleep to Dillinger Escape Plan on loop; Marshall Biever, a prodigious funk guitarist who once snuck into a Bernhoft concert; and Drew Bastian on bass, who hails from the musical theater world and drinks his coffee from a Motion City Soundtrack mug. Sit down with the band for five minutes and you would ask yourself how these four people ever got together, but, judging by the rush that is their debut album Sugar Bomb!, it is Manic Pixi’s differences that make their music incendiary.

“Unique blend of rock n’ roll grit and infectious pop-glam”- Under the Gun Review

“Vocalist Kat Hamilton is a Force of Nature”-Fuck Yeah Queer Music"

“Your Newest Guilty Pleasure”- Curve Magazine

With Alberto de Icaza of Machine Shop fame at the production helm, Manic Pixi will be releasing their sophomore LP Iron Heart in 2016, ready to show the world their musical range and a graduation to something fresher. With the raucous, eponymous single, “Iron Heart”, the more mature Pixis are out for pop-punk tinted blood. “If I call you/ if I hold you / you say I’m trying too hard” bellows Hamilton over Biever’s infectious guitar riffs. By the time the blistering bridge highlights Ceglia’s colossal chops, It is obvious that Manic Pixi are back with music to lambaste anyone that stands in their way.

“I could walk you through a tome of our ups and downs: walking thirty blocks with all our gear in the rain to play a twenty-minute set, the many jobs we all work, the myriad of other opportunities we repeatedly turn down, or the wear and tear on our bodies,” says Hamilton. “No matter what has come our way, this band has been the most resourceful and loyal group of musicians I have ever met. We are as unbreakable as metal.”

Manic Pixi isn’t just a band, it’s a family. Fans leave live shows emphatically saying, “You can tell they love it - that they love each other.” It is more than the music that inspires their small but devoted fanbase, it is the commitment. The commitment to a live performance that leaves every bead of sweat on the stage. The commitment to making records that take the listener on an adrenaline roller coaster. The commitment to being the band that hugs the most and rocks the hardest.
