Life On Land

A project spawned by singer and songwriter Jon Richman, Life On Land, officially unveil their debut album, A Season, released on October 2nd, 2015 by Milagro Records (Outside Distribution). After working as a solo act for many years, it was not until 2011, following a meeting with bassist Mark Grand'Maison, that Richman finally laid the foundation for Life On Land. The duo was subsequently joined by multi-instrumentalist Guillaume Tessier (guitar, banjo, lap steel), whose versatility and fascination with eclectic sounds added a new dimension to the band’s compositions and finally by gifted percussionist Jean-Denis Boudreault, who’s quick-witted and multifaceted approach was the missing link needed to complete the band’s sound. There was instant chemistry between the members of the newly founded Montreal based quartet, and they quickly built a strong repertoire of indie-folk songs with pop tendencies. Their strong melodies and enchanting atmospheres quickly captivated audiences, as well as producer Glen Robinson (The Ramones, Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones …). Robinson agreed to join in on the band’s adventure, and to produce and mix their first record. Robinson managed to perfectly capture the essence of Life On Land’s compositions, adding an impressive lavishness to their recordings, without altering or interfering with the distinct aesthetics of their original sound and multi-layered instrumentation. The album was mastered by the renowned sound engineer Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Tom Waits, The White Stripes …). The band’s first single, “I'd Have You“, recently reached several radio charts and was up to second position on the ADISQ’s Top Anglo Charts while reaching the number one position on M103,5 radio station. The band’s second single and title track of the album, “A Season”, has been playing on CHOM 97,7 in Montreal as well as on over 20 other radio stations from Ontario to New-Brunswick. --------------------------- Projet né autour du chanteur et auteur-compositeur Jon Richman, Life On Land se dévoile officiellement avec l'album A Season, sorti le 2 octobre sous l'étiquette Milagro (Outside Distribution). Après avoir foulé les scènes en solo avec sa guitare durant plusieurs années, ce n'est qu'en 2011 que Richman a jeté les bases de Life On Land, à la suite de sa rencontre avec le bassiste Mark Grand'Maison. Le tandem a ensuite été rejoint par le multi-instrumentiste Guillaume Tessier (guitare, banjo, lap steel), dont la polyvalence a permis d'ouvrir de nouvelles portes sur le plan des sonorités, puis par le percussionniste Jean-Denis Boudreault, qui venait compléter agilement et avec finesse la section rythmique du groupe. La chimie s'est immédiatement installée au sein du quatuor basé à Montréal, qui n'a pas tardé à se monter un solide répertoire folk moderne aux accents roots et pop. Ses mélodies fortes et ses ambiances captivantes ont rapidement charmé les auditoires. Si bien que le renommé réalisateur Glen Robinson (The Ramones, Foo Fighters, The Rolling Stones…) a aussi accepté de se joindre à l'aventure afin de mener à terme ce tout premier enregistrement. Robinson a su parfaitement capter l'essence des compositions de Life on Land, leur conférant une impressionnante richesse sonore sans pour autant estomper leurs bases acoustiques. L’album a été masterisé à Los Angeles par le renommé ingénieur Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Tom Waits, The White Stripes …). Le premier extrait du groupe, « I’d Have You », s’est retrouvé dans plusieurs palmarès radio, grimpant jusqu’en deuxième position au Palmarès anglophone de l’Adisq et en première position à la station M103,5. Le deuxième extrait et chanson titre de l’album, « A Season », a récemment été ajouté à la programmation du poste de radio CHOM 97,7 à Montréal et est en rotation dans une vingtaine d’autres radios de l’Ontario jusqu’au Nouveau-Brunswick.
